Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

200 from Bristol done in January when Noah's Ark would have been better than a bike. 300 in March DNS due to COVID positive and snow. 300 reprise this Saturday fingers crossed for the weather. 400 Brevet Cymru at the end of April. 600 Mark Rigby's event from Tewkesbury mid-May which is a lot of the ...

My Hunt road wheels are embarrassingly loud, louder than any Hopes I've had.

Go for DT350 or 240 if you've got the cash; silent and robust even if you never touch them.

Re: Tall Riders Coat Choices

You need to embrace roadie jackets if you want tighter fit for longer torso/arms. I've had a few jackets from the likes of r a p h a and castelli that fit me well at 6'2" with a 38" chest, but none are as waterproof as a non-cycling fit Outdry.

Are people who buy steel bicycles [frames] forced to use them for no less than 20000km before they are allowed to buy another?

Just thinking back to 2014, the only bits I remember that were really bad were the 2 sections of tussocky hike a bike before the Coed y brenin climb. Were there more? The section after Ysbyty Ifan. I was waist deep in water at one point during that. I think I did 5 miles in two hours in the dark. P...

Re: Marrying a Revelate Spinelock to superlight carbon rails!

Can you fashion something for the saddlebag straps that attaches to the seatpost and never touches the saddle rails? For instance there's loads of different designs of seatclamps with rack mounts built in that you could add with a rubber shim at the top of the post? Then screw a couple of 'bars' int...

Seriously, I paid more than your asking price for a lightly used 6 month old frame, so if yours is boxfresh its a baragin at this price, with or without the XTR cranks. :-bd

I've got the same SC frame and every time it's been to the BB200 it's returned with a black badge...grab Shaf's and get yourself the badge you always wanted!*

Re: TT bars on flat mountain bar

You can get exposure mounts that fit on the stem cap or under a Garmin out-front mount that are pretty robust, but no doubt you have a bag on the front so under the bars won't work. A 24hr TT trick was to chop a short piece of old handlebar and ziptie through it to fit it between your TT bags, creat...

Just remembered what I did with my last set of Campagnolo downtube shifters...made them into keyrings! I have one of them on my desk right now with my bike shed and locker keys on it, and it looks great. It will never go near a bike again thank F.

Re: Gravel but not, kind of.

My natural cynic says these will sell to Instagram users not actual bike riders; form over function. I got as close to this as I wanted in 2017 with a Karate Monkey frameset. It rode great and was faff-free. Function dictates canti and downtube shifters should be remembered fondly but never again be...

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

Pre-entry completed. I chose a 5am start with 84hr time limit. No idea of availability of hotels/bivvy spots near the start and I've not given any thought to the traveling logistics, other than avoiding flights. I'm still hoping for a TCR entry but this is a reasonable Plan B. A bit of travelling t...

Putting my SS MTB back together and have realised I've used my hyd brakes on my son's bike build last year. Any one got any reasonable cheapish hyd brakes (flat bar) they want to sell before I buy some Deore 6100s? Shimano marginally preferred as I have all the kit to service the XT and SLX o...

Reading through all that I don't think I have what you want  but I like Spyres more than BB7s and would happily swap a pair of well-used silver road BB7 calipers for similar condition Spyres if that is of any interest to you (not sure about the pre-recall ones though as the front BB7 is/was be...

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

I'm sold. There are a few bucket list audax rides that I'm hoping to factor into the qualification, like the Bryan Chapman 600, so qualification would really be a bonus. The Chapman is good but the route has changed with an organiser change a few years ago. The organiser is now running a 600 from T...

Re: PBP - anyone planning on entering?

The key difference with Paris Brest Paris to almost anything else I/we do is the crowds lining the whole 1200km route, kids wanting to high five you after two days if not washing your hands, locals in villages running free food stalls in the middle of the night, being cheered on for the hero you wis...
