4 x AA Energizer Recharge "extreme" batteries for Steripen. "Normal" rechargeables do the job but show low battery reading. Oh, and a set of Hope Tech 3 V4 brakes (20% discount Westbrook Bikes) which should really be on the mantelpiece as works of art. No point having them on the...

Re: Todays ride
Yep, a bit of Peak [Pp]ractice for me too. Weds lunchtime alighted at Grindleford station, thence via Stoney Middleton and track to Eyam where I figured I deserved a break at the Village Cafe after my 3 miles of exertions. Well it doesn't do to overdo it at my age. The climb up to Sir William Hill (...

A-frame? Same lines etc. Clove hitch round top of poles if u want them away from the tarp for lower pitch. Flying V and lost yer poles? Few loops round a tree with a slippery 'alf 'itch. Other three corners pegged to ground. One line half hitched round a handy stick to make a lifter to keep the tarp...

Re: Knots for tarps
Tarped in Peaks night before last. 8x10 and some 1m and 2m x 1.5mm dyneema and Stu carbon pegs and poles. Flying V. Up in 60 seconds no faffing with ridgelines. All lines got luminous minilineloks one end and bowline the other. Push bowline slightly thru tarp loop then linelok end thru bowline and f...

Re: Regular Peak District Night Ride?
Technically not a "night" ride, in as much as it's an, er, "day" ride; but on Weds will be doing something like Calver (early PM) - Eyam - Bradwell Moor - Hope for Cheshire Cheese beer/nosh about 6pm. 30 mins of night ride (to allow me onto this thread) to crash out near Jaggers ...

INSIDE Monsal tunnel now that's brilliant. 100' of rain protection, did you bother with a tarp as backup? ;). Great place anyway, although one would have preferred the Stables Bar to have been 100' feet away horizontally rather than vertically. Once organised an AGM for an outfit I'm a member of, on...

"loud"? Got three of these (nooo, not on the same bicycle! Hmm... then again...). 140dB at maximum revs. Trouble is there's only certain areas I can use them because they contravene Strategic Arms Limitations treaties: http://www.airzound.co.uk/ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/161976046003?...

"40 miles of slipping and sliding". Wow, that's Gloop Central, top effort. Great to see a proper warning device on those bars too - almost puts my "Postman Pat" to shame. Works fine apart from on the canal towpath when I sound like a duck and everyone ignores it. (apologies, pic ...

Re: What's your Every Ride Carry?
Sadly I missed the pun - well spotted :-). Anyway, as an exercise in trying the ultimate BP set-up it left one or two things to be desired, although I suppose at least I tried. Possibly that's an obscure play on words too. The desirability of one or two things being aired was quite likely restricted...

"I have genuinely ridden my bike with just myself, my clothes and my bike & nothing else." :-) I may regret airing this, but I've ridden with just myself and my bike and nothing else. At all. Only once to see what happened. Only a mile or so. Not a pretty sight, but since nobody saw me...

On this subject, have never got a definitive answer from either tinternet or light companies about whether to leave the batteries fully or partially charged to get the best longevity. Even had different answers from one company at different times. At one point the consensus seemed to be that if leav...

"Who can get the longest flame without burning the house down?" Must admit it took a bit of tinkering to get it to work sideways. Bioethanol's worth a try, although Stuart doesn't approve ;-). No pong at all. Well, smells a bit like a voddie cocktail so you could toast your pyrotechnic ski...

Also bought some from GO a while ago at about five quid for the litre. However my best effort was a couple of weeks ago at B&Q who flogged me 2 litres of "La Hacienda" Bioethanol for £4.50. It's excellent. Managed to cook a three-course Christmas dinner for six on Stuart's 22g stove. A...

"Titanium windshield from China.". Hi Frog, yeah I got the very same one a few weeks back. Not worked out best way to use it yet with the 22g stove, and got a few so-far-unresolved concerns. It doesn't really free-stand, and if you cough too hard it blows away; not entirely surprising I su...

Very creative that. Raises the next fun question of "favourite ways to double-up/triple-up your gear?". Eg. Could've just used your actual boot/shoelaces rather than taking others, and could also be used as very short washing line (maybe just long enough for a pair of socks) ((or indeed ju...

Re: favourite way to set your tarp up?
Fantastic pic! If you'd dug a little pit (not raining presumably) you could have had it flat to the ground so no need for any lines and poles at all - ultimate light weight and simplicity. Apart from carrying the shovel around of course.
