Re: How many bikes is too many

I've got 6 (jumpy MTB, xc bike, fatty, cx bike, roadie, bmx) and while i could easily have more (a dh bike and/or a trials one) 6 seems to be quite a lot already...

Pre-kids, i had more than this, although often in bits!

The chainring/head collision risk looks a tad off-putting!

Re: Sleeping systems for the dog?

When my dog was young enough to come along with me, I carried a vet bed for her to lie on. A synthetic sheepskin, pretty much. I've got one of those bags, and it's great for taking a filthy dog in a clean car but I'm not sure she'd sleep in it! Whenever she got cold, I'd just make sure she is fairly...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread

If you are relatively small and female, tkmaxx in Sheffield had very nice yeti down jackets at £99 down from £350.... Try as I might, the biggest one (ladies medium) wouldn't fit me!

Re: is this a daft idea?

Sounds perfectly fine (but try it at home in case it tastes rank!)... But why not carry a decent sized ziploc bag for the same purpose? Lighter and designed for food/drink. Even works fine as a dry bag for your warm jacket or similar too.

Not got a photo of it yet, but the postman brought a lovely forme bikes Ripley courtesy of the half price sale at start fitness.... Very blue and Shiny, first complete new mountain bike I've bought in about 12 years! Photo almost certainly to follow soon, complete with frame bag and revelate sweetro...

Re: small tent on jones bars?

Should be fine, I've quite happily strapped a tiny 2man tent on top of the stem/bars with normal risers and there's a lot more space under Jones bars.

As haywire said, use body weight but gently.

Don't do what I caught one of my Duke of Edinburgh groups about to do which was trying to use (a borrowed) trangia pan as a mallet!!

Re: So, what did he bring you?

I got a pair of nice headphones, a bottle of Laphroaig, a sushi recipe book, a t-shirt which sounds a lot like Alasdair's and a 40t narrow-wide chainring for the kaffenback. All good really, and the kids were hugely excited to see the remains of the snacks/whisky they had left out the night before.....

I'm also new to the velo viewer explorer score. Currently on 10*10, 1 more square will get me 11*11, and another 7ish will get me 13*13. Looks like I'll be running & riding in some curious parts of south Yorkshire in the next few months!

Re: GPS tracking or a spot!

I've successfully used insta-mapper GPS tracker for long rides, and it's not too bad on the battery life. You can set the update interval which helps too. Interface is a bit clunky/basic but works well enough.

Hoping to get more rides and more overnight trips (by bike and on foot) than this year. Also looking at a duathlon style ride as a fundraiser - around the boundary of south Yorkshire. Should be approx 25mile fell run from Burbage bridge to somewhere near Marsden, then a minor roads, tracks and bridl...

I'm pretty sure you can turn off the auto pause, I know you can on the strava android app.

Pauses after 10 seconds on mine too.
