Re: WRT route planning help

You can put the grid references in Where's the Path. Click on the binoculars and enter the GR.

Re: WRT route planning help

I use a mixture of Where's the Path, Bing Maps (Ordnance Survey level), bikehike, Google maps (street level and ariel) and Geograph.org.uk.

Composite, look at this:

It looks a lot different on the map.

Re: WRT 2014

Signed up at the last minute. Thought it would be a shame to miss out. Travelling from Durham in the North East so would be great to lift share if possible. Cost me a fortune in petrol last year.

Absolutely excellent editing there. I imagine it to have been quite time consuming to set the camera up to get all those shots. Well done.

Re: WRT 2014

Was going to give it a miss this year due to the cost of driving to Wales and back from Durham and also the lack of a GPS. After last year I know I need one. The wife is encouraging me to go and said she may treat me to a GPS!

Re: What sleeping bag?

Have a look at the Vango Venom range. I've been very happy with my 400 so far. You can get a good deal on them if you shop around.

Re: Historical maps

Totally amazing. I find it very interesting to look at old maps and how the landscape has changed over the years. Thanks for the link. Also have a look at this one which is quite good too.

Re: Brands?

Endura - I have bought some of their stuff in the past and it was all good quality. Lately some of the stuff just isn't up to scratch. I've had shorts, socks and gloves fall to bits after a few weeks. I'm very cautious with them now and tend to look elsewhere. Aldi - Although some of the cycling ite...

Re: Wildcat Tiger Advice

Nothing unusual about my setup, it's a carbon seatpost but the noise is coming from the strap buckles as well. The saddle is set slightly back too. I'll see if I can post a pic.

Wildcat Tiger Advice

I've been using the Wildcat Tiger and have noticed the back of my legs touching it while I'm riding. It also makes a squeaking noise around the seatpost area when going over bumps etc. Just wondered if anyone else had the same problem and if they managed to resolve it. Thanks.

Re: Chain Lube

After trying loads of different kind of lubes my favourite at the moment is Squirt. It keeps the chain clean, is long lasting and smooth. Although not as good as a proper wet lube in the wet it does a fair job and doesn't wash off too easily.

Bikepacking from the 1890's

Matthew Lee talks about bikepackers from the 1890's. The concept has been around even longer than we thought. (01:27 onwards)

Re: No longer a mountain biker.

I use the term Adventure Cycling. I have friends who are happy to ride 8 miles in the local woods jumping six feet in the air on a 40 lb mountain bike and freewheeling downhill at 30 miles an hour over roots and tree stumps. They call themselves mountain bikers. I am also a mountain biker but that k...

Re: What sleeping mat?

I've got a Multimat Superlite which has been comfortable and warm. Used it in the WRT where it went down to minus 2 during the night. I got mine for £35 i think. It's only 300g with a tiny pack size. http://www.multimat.uk.com/store/products/superlite-air http://www.outdoorgear.co.uk/Multimat-Superl...

Cheers for posting, I must try bivving myself now the summer's here and leave the tent at home. Just waiting for Alpkit to have them in stock. Great views by the way. I remember a 'bridleway' on the WRT which was supposed to be Sustrans Route No 8, it was the worst part of the trip. Could hardly pus...

Good write up, you've shown you don't have to ride mile and miles to have an overnight adventure.

Re: Bike packing Shropshire video

I watched your video on Vimeo a couple of weeks ago and think it's great. Some really slick editing in there. I like all the other bits too where you're setting up camp, cooking etc. It creates a story for the viewer and gives us an insight into the adventure you had. Well done. ;)
