Re: selling bike through courier

I've always used paisley freight in the past, but got really stung last time I used them - the box was close to the size limit, but not over. They collected it from a neighbour and contacted me later to say it was 1cm too long (I sub standard you not) and wanted me to pay an additional fee to ship i...

Re: Grease (is the word)

Yeah I use the tubes of finish line and have the gun that screws on. It’s not like I get through it at a terrific rate. But I’ve always thought £10 a tube smacked a little of emperors new clothes. Thanks for the recommendations - that big tub of lithium grease linked by Alex is pretty much what I ha...

Grease (is the word)

I need to buy some more grease for general assembly purposes- bb threads, headsets, etc I’ve always bought the finish line stuff in a tube in the past. Whilst it’s fine, I’ve always had the suspicion the cycle industry has seen me coming and I could buy something very similar in a huge tub for a fra...

Think I’ve be got some older 9speed brifters- I’ll go and have a dig…

Ok st-4400 tiagra - the ones with the gear cable exiting sideways. A bit scuffed but functionally fine, what about £25 posted if of interest

Re: Softshells, I'm lost.

I’ve been a big fan of rab vapourise years - I’ve got 3 different variations but get the most use out of the the thinner ‘alpine’ one.

The stretchy rab borealis pull on works really well for biking and doesn’t add any insulation.

Watch out with the direct from China stuff. I bought some bb7 a while a ago and when they turned up they were obvious fakes.

Cheers Gari - nice range of sizes there too. Weirdly looks like they are listing left and right sides separately! I’m going to hold on a little and see if any second hand gold turns up, but failing that £30 for a brand new set is not bad! Edit: whoa! £15 a pair! Now we’re talking! https://www.spacyc...

SORTED Wtd: cheap 165mm / 170mm cranks

Putting together a bike for my daughter - the one she currently is using has a cheap one piece triple with 152mm cranks. She has shot up recently and needs something longer. Preferably 165mm (170mm at a push) with a mtb spider (could be a retro 5 bolt!as I think I might have some rings kicking round...

Re: Spearfish owners - bearing question

What finish have you got at the moment, mine was black anodised. Brought it like that as a frame, well loved (and a HT550 veteran) but showing the signs of age. I had to get it media blasted to be able to get the paint to adhere. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49643991587_9af250d212_z.jpg Just...

Mines the older non split pivot version so can’t help. There was definitely creaking and play in mine at the main pivot but haven’t touched the upper linkage part.

Re: Loop Bars - uncomfortable

I swapped from On one OG bars to loops and found exactly the same thing - couldn’t get comfy (and felt weirdly wheel barrow like) and delft I was trying to reduce the amount of sweep by how I gripped them. After trying various other things I’ve settled on 16deg of sweep being the sweet spot for me. ...

Re: Spearfish owners - bearing question

It’s the original paint job. I bought it from Iain Fitz who had given it a pretty hard life. The cable rub is alarmingly deep in places but I try not to think about it

Re: Spearfish owners - bearing question

That’s great thanks Sean. I might limp on with it for a couple more rides while the weather is decent then strip it down and have a look. I don’t tend to ride it much once everything gets really muddy because of the comedy rear tyre clearance. A respray is an interesting idea - mines have a pretty h...

Spearfish owners - bearing question

I know I few of you also have the original spearfish circa 2012 ish. I’ve noticed some play in the rear triangle and suspect the pivot close to the bb is the issue. Before I start dismantling is bearing replacement a simple job of tapping out what’s in there and sourcing standard sized bearings, or ...

Does anyone else have a problem with how quiet they are? I’ve nearly been flattened a couple of times out riding - made me appreciate how much you rely on the sound of approaching vehicles when you ride.

Re: Modifying ortleib pannier suggestions

I the end I decided I didn’t have time and as I would not be making a habit of using them it wasn’t worth making major alterations. Looking at the new ‘gravel’ panniers ortlieb do they have two of the lower hooks, so I ordered a couple from sjs and added them to the rail. This was quite a big improv...
