Re: Baselayer recommendations?

Always found merino too much for anything high intensity - I love Brynje polypropylene mesh ones from Nordic life. Look very rock horror show and terrify the kids when paired with bib shorts, bit work better than anything else if you're a sweaty bugger. Edit - just re read your post and had totally ...

Re: Steripen Ultralight. Any good?

I had one and loved it (apart from the expensive batteries) until it threw itself out of a framebag onto a concrete floor and stopped working. Use a filter now just because it seems a bit less fragile if you drop it miles from home. Still got a load of the expensive batteries kicking round if you do...

Re: Degreaser

I buy the 'no nonsense' stuff from Screwfix. It's quite powerful so I'd suggest diluting a little with water. I use the same stuff. Great value but Stu's not kidding - I put some in a handy little alloy bottle with a swing top as it's easier to fill the chain cleaner than the big 5l container. It a...

Re: Trial Period Saddles

Rich I had the kind of pain you're describing after a big multiday event that out me off the bike for a while. It was riding a titanium charge spoon where the saddle was old and the base had sagged, which caused the nose to be higher than it should he. I bought a Selle SMP saddle (massive cut out + ...

Ardent race (exo) a good fast rolling tyre with reasonable cornering grip.
I'd also second xr3 bontys if it gets a bit rougher.

Anyone using a Topeak dropper post mount?

For the record they are fantastic - a big shout to Andy for the recommendation. I cut mine down a bit and use it with some old foam grip over it to give the bag strap more to wrap roun Anyway, they come with 2 part rubber shims to fit different widths of dropper sanction. Mines a 27.2 dropper so I u...

Re: Taping frame

Thanks for all the suggestions. Grubby edges is exactly what I meant Andy. I use electric tape round the stays when I fit the mud hugger, not sure why that didn't occur to me. Clear vinyl film sounds promising Phil, is this the stuff? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303592749677?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&...

Taping frame

Been a bit lazy about taping frames to protect against bag rub over the years, but also put off by the mess left by the tape when it was eventually removed (eBay 'helicopter tape' I think from memory) but also as most of them have been steel or ali. Anyway, I need to tape a carbon frame. What do peo...

FS: Salsa spearfish frameset / reverb / bar stem

Mk1 salsa spearfish. It’s been superb for big cross country days out and more challenging bike packing trips. If you like your bike looking pristine then stop reading now. Lots of cable rub and missing paint from bag straps etc, but all mechanically sound. Pivot bearings replaced not long ago. Size ...

Re: Shimano caliper - micro leaks

It's not a bleeding issue. The pads are getting contaminated. I'd also always thought pistons leaking - certainly when it happened on an old set of slx that was the case. Nothing on the pistons or pad backing. It's the o-ring that seals the connection from one half of the caliper to the other (as ch...

Shimano caliper - micro leaks

Thought I'd try the BB give mind and see if anyone has had any success with this: Pretty sure another caliper has succumbed to a micro leak. Can't see anything but - Symptoms are howling brake with no power. It can be improved by cleaning the rotor and pad or burning it off on a a long down hill but...
