Well done to these three teenagers for completing the route and camp, and to chief cheer leader/motivator Stu Taylor.

Re: GB Duro Entries open

I imagine that the organisers liability insurance is demanding that riders have personal insurance. I know that in the past we've had to see proof that any supplier we use for events has there own cover to a certain £amount. British Cycling membership gives liability insurance (£24/year from memory)...

And its £125 plus tracker hire and registration what exactly are you getting, in a self supported ITT, that warrants that? From the site: The £125 entry fee includes: • GPX of the GBDIVIDE route [Cape Wrath variant] • A shared experience as part of a special community of riders • Unlimited access t...

I was in an orange jacket with a Kendal CC logo on the back. Should be asking on the WJ thread, but was it you riding with Jamie Hyppy? Moving conversation from the BAM thread: Nah, I rode solo. I saw Jamie early on in Ambleside then in the ODG in the evening, but not Sunday. Ah, so maybe it was yo...

Re: Who'd have thunk it, an interesting article on Road.cc?

Well reading this has changed our holiday plans. The 5 of us are now getting the ferry to Amsterdam, on bikes, and doing a leisurely 250Km loop using eco rated hostels and BnB's. We'll buy local etc and hope the kids don't hate it too much  It was always an option to be honest, but this was a t...

Currently Wifedom ... about Orwell's invisible wife Eileen .. How was it? Assassinatory. Orwell was patently a complex man with significant issues, and I for one don't think he was without massive flaws in his character and behaviour towards women. But Funder does a cracking job of highlighting the...

Currently Wifedom ... about Orwell's invisible wife Eileen .. How was it? 'The Lighthouse of Stalingrad' by Iain MacGregor- a fairly concise and readable account of the Battle for the city, based on many witness accounts and released war records. The numbers are mind boggling and it lays bare the m...

I'd planned to go for this Saturday, when the sun was out a bit, but a last minute announcement of family and social engagements scuppered it, so Sunday was my last chance for February. I couldn't fit in an overnighter, so was travelling light. Shaf (Redefined_cycles) had sent me 7 locations, all fo...

Also reading Raw Spirit by Iain Banks, great fun though I confess to skipping the ample petrolhead discursions.
I dipped in and out of it, and have now lost/lent out my copy. As a massive Iain Banks fan, it felt like it was under edited, and that he was given free reign.

Sainsbury have Laphroaig Oak Select for £26 (Nectar price). Not sure it's nectar, but it's like a smooth, flowy, trail centre descent of an Islay malt.
