Re: What do you cook and what on when out bikepacking

I've gradually progressed from DIY dehydrated supermarket stuff fortified with a small tin of tuna or some salami to just using bought freeze dried meals. I acknowledge all the faults with these mentioned above but it's mostly just for convenience and I usually have a couple in stock, ready to go as...

Re: made possible by advent of ‘fatbikes’

I can't help relating my genuine (afaik) and very ironic tale about COP26. The organisers bought/leased a fleet of electric vehicles to ferry the delegates to and from the venues during the event however unfortunately Glasgow still doesn't have enough of the correct charging facilities in the releva...

Thule Proride 598 bike carriers.

I have a pair of Thule Proride 598 roof bar mount bike carriers for sale. They have matching locks (so only require one key for both racks). They mount to any roof bars with a T-track (most modern aero bars). They're in great condition and can come with swappable fat bike wheel mounts if required. G...

Yeah, I hope my little tale won't put people off visiting Wales (or Dolgellau), my point was that idiots are idiots and exist irrespective of nationality. It was just the coincidence of the original post happening in Dolgellau that prompted my reply.

Uberbike are doing 20% off for Halloween with the code Spooky20. I just bought some brake pads and it worked although they apply the discount before VAT and postage so it's not a true 20%. Still good if you were planning to buy something from them anyway though (I was going to buy four pairs of Race...

Re: what waterproof ??

I horded a new Outdry Reign during a Columbia sale a while ago and just broke it out for the first time last week during an ultra soggy ride. I'm glad I bought it back when they were readily available and relatively cheap if they're becoming hard to find. I had been thinking about splashing out on a...

Re: Aggression from others spoil your ride?

Spookily enough one of the few times I've ever encountered unprovoked unpleasantness on a night out happened in a pub in Dolgellau. A group of us were down from Scotland for a weekend's riding at Coed y Brenin and went out in the town for food and beers during the evening. We were happily chatting a...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Got some mushroom plugs... Do these need any adhesive to fit, or do you just rely on the sealant? They are like puncture patches so you peel a backing paper off but they aren't self adhesive. I use rubber solution for belt and braces but pressure / sealant would probably be enough. I've just bought...

Re: What lights?

I made do for years with varying degrees of Chinese light quality/lack of. As has been stated the light units are usually okay and you can pick up a better UK battery. This culminated with a Fluxient light of semi decent quality which was very good for riding local trails. The problem came when I wa...

Re: New BB jerseys - pre-order one now.

I bought large last time for the roady style tops (which I only wear on my gravel bike) and XL for the baggy MTB style top. These were spot on for me (ie. fairly tight for the roady look on the gravel bike and a bit loose but not super baggy on the MTB top). I'm 6 feet tall, weigh 13.5 stones and ha...

As an aside, how many boners use the talkytoaster maps? I find them pretty good, and it's nice to support the little guy I used to use them and found them mostly good however after having a close shave with almost walking off a rocky outcrop that was unmarked on the Talkytoaster map but is on the O...

I've got an 80mm Redshift Suspension stem that I'd be willing to sell as I'm currently gravel-bikeless. Drop me a message if your interested. These are very good. I got one a while ago and was a bit worried that it'd be a waste of money but it takes a lot of sting out of rough surfaces and yet isn'...

I reckon it depends which carbon bars as well. I've not used carbon drops but have/had multiple different carbon risers and they vary massively from brand to brand (and sometimes from model to model).

Re: Gravel riders - Sore palms advice sought

I get exactly the same issues that you're describing. I found that using the Redshift ergo grip thing on my bars (wrapped under the bar tape) helped in the same way that ergo grips help on an MTB. I also make a conscious effort to change position as often as possible and this seems to help. With tha...

Re: Garmin Edges

I hummed and hahhed for ages about buying an Edge. I already had a walking Garmin (Etrex 20) that had OS maps on it and the problem as others have mentioned is that the screen is often too small to make full use of the decent mapping. Add to this the fact that I now need to wear reading glasses to s...

I serviced the rear hub (Hope Fatsno) on my fat bike this morning. I'd had a creaking noise coming from the transmission for a little while and after checking everything and replacing the bottom bracket, the hub was the only thing left. I know some people don't rate Hope hubs but it's so easy to rep...

My ti fat bike has a 64° hta (Smokestone Bow Ti LS) and it's not floppy in the steering department at all. I've not ridden it in fat mode with luggage on but it was fine on the alternative 29er wheels that I have for it.

Gian mentions 'a mid' tent. Is that a particular manufacturer or is it a type of structure (sorry for my lack of knowledge). It's an abreviation of pyramid, so a single pole in the middle type tent like a Lunar Solo Shaf. Fwiw I spent a very sleepless night in my Hexpeak outer supported by a trekki...

I've had a few rides on my LBS mate's demo ebikes over the last few years and regarding the comments about just sitting on it not working hard or it being like a motorbike they're really nothing like that. Remember that you need to put pressure on the pedals to get any assistance from the motor. In ...
