Re: 1400 metre climb over 100km ??
I was about to say any road ride in mid Wales or the Yorkshire Dales. 1400m climb per 100k is actually quite easy to achieve round here too.

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn
A 20x20x6 slab = 5750 T and that's the size of the ones in my local hills. So 8000T probably about right for one in deep peat. Oh and concrete takes a load of CO2 to produce....

Re: Narrow-wide chainrings
Sean, I'm swearing by Superstar rings - got one on the Straggler (surly cog and connex 8 speed chain) and it's lasted for ages - 2 years and a good chunk of miles in all weather (2 chains though). I also use a 26T one on the fatty and it too seems to be lasting for yonks. £30

Re: North York Moors 300
Bloody hell, one of the things I like about that route last year was that it wasn't a complete mission (a la BB300 ) I see he has missed the railway line of headwind doom out and added the inclined plain. I think he was also going to try and remove some of the road riding in the forest.

Select the picture and hit the edit button at the top of the page (microsh*te in the doc / pic viewer) and it opens in paint. The resize button then allows you to reduce it to whatever you want. Sorry that's probably not a great description, doubtless you tube will have a better one...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn
As for 220m turbines on-shore, it's bonkers, the civil engineering in the base is going to be huge I'm interested to learn more about that to increase my knowledge. At the moment we have the highest one in England just outside our town at 147m. Apparently it's also the most powerful, generating 4.1...

Re: Narrow-wide chainrings
I've found using a NW ring without a clutch mech works fine, no issues with chain dropping. Also used a normal ring (full profile teeth, no ramps or pins) with a clutch mech and it needed a chain guide Funnily enough when I ran a triple, the chain regularly dropped of the granny ring. You always spa...

Re: We live in a 'golden age' if your bike preferences aren't off the shelf
oof, Overburys. I remember seeing an odd one at a couple of the early days MTB races, quite the things. I subsequently used to see one round Edinburgh, usually locked to a lamppost and looking rather battered Remember this ad? https://i.ibb.co/wyDTZZG/overbury-pioneer-188.jpg The stepped top tube / ...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn
One of (many) things that annoys me about wind farm developments is the way they go about developments - put in for a large number of large turbines and if you get planning it's a bonus, otherwise at some point you agree to reduce the size and number, everyone heaves a sigh of relief and you get pla...

They always seem to have some sale on but particularly good savings on socks, including waterproof (£13) and merino (from £5), at Banana Industries at the mo. The waterproof socks look quite interesting (note subtle dig at seal skins!) and my current ones are all now leaking so will see how these p...

My latest Deschutes pitching experiments have led me to do it like the flat tarp in an A config - peg out the two rear corners, in with the pole and peg out the pole guy, peg the rest out - works every time!

I then dismounted my bike in the usual style of flinging my leg over the back, forgetting I had kit back there and ended up landing on the ground. We have all done it.... Haven't we? A bit of packraft action today, first time walking and boating on Lower and Upper Glen Devon Reservoir so good practice inflating and deflating boat.
