Re: A chain lube that doesn't accelerate the winter/salty rust...

I changed to Putoline motor cycle wax last year after getting fed up with going through so many chains in Dorsets sandy tracks. Its a bit of a faff and initial investment but I've been really satisfied with the results. I do nothing to the chain between rides, no washing, no wiping, just left alone....

Re: What capacity battery pack do you use?

For overnighters I use a cheap lipstick 5000mAh that will charge the phone and top up the Garmin. For anything longer I use an 20,000mAh Anker power bank. Currently I carry a plug and lead for the Anker and try and recharge at any cafe, pub I go in. I am interested in Solar charging the Anker for mo...

Re: Favourite bike of 'all time'?

Thread resurrection coincidence ! I'm currently sat in a motorway services about to hand over my Trek 69er (mentioned on page 1) to a new owner   You'll regret it! Travis Brown Trek 69er single speed, was and remains, my favourite bike despite the far more expensive exotica I also own. ...

I'm sure many of you will already have it but I would recommend Rich and Tom's 22,000 Miles.

I'm sure there are other sources.

Re: Ever built a no expense spared bike?

I did build up a Turner Czar with pretty much no expense limit. Formula R1 brakes were and remain rubbish. Next SL crank tore all the chain bolts off. Bike is still great to ride though. Also once built up a Roberts dogs bollx with the lightest kit I could buy only to find a lot were very bendy and/...

Your comments are comical. This place is like Singletrack World for old men.
The same self-righteous condemnation for anything outside their niche. Just with slippers.

You could just ignore it if you find it that offensive.

Rei Superlight bivi

For sale. This completely unused lightweight and roomy bivy. All I've done is taken it out of the bag indoors and then repacked it. I paid over £150 with import tax and now I'm just looking for £100 for what is a brand new and unused item.

Charlie does another cream now called Save our souls (say it quickly you'll get it!) Its the same as Bum Butter but with added Thyme. Not sure if the Thyme has any additional properties, but it does smell nice. SOS is available from Singletrack, which might put some of you off, but is surprisingly i...

Re: GCN does bikepacking

GCN have Manon Lloyd who is good on the road side and Katherine Moore on the off road side, Katherine does the Unpaved gravel/bikepacking podcast too,

Katherine hasn't worked there for over a year. Emma Pooley didn't last long either. Both really added something to the channel.

Re: Some dots to follow, at last!

Emma Pooley should do well, she was like a mountain goat in her pro days and also a very handy dual/tri athlete IIRC Siver medalist at the Olympics and world champion. But more importantly, she beat a talented field at Further last year, at her very first bike packing race an a very tough course. F...

Re: anyone suffer from Hotfoot ?

In some shoes I never get hotfoot, in some I do. The ones I do get it in were stiff soled disco slippers with thin or unsupportive insoles. I've cured this by replacing the insoles with Gore ones from some running shoes. Problem solved. Permenantly!

I went the custom route on a Wizard Works Lil' Presto. I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you recover quickly and it doesn't put you off your future riding.

The only consolation I can give you is the Covid-19 will pick off the idiots who can't maintain social distance or wash their hands regularly. Just like the twunts who pushed you off!

Re: Sleep Systems

I have an Alpkit Solo tent. Its a freestanding set up. I rarely use it as a complete tent, and prefer using the outer only as a "tarp tent" I find this arrangement far more comfortable than a tarp, although it weighs a bit more. In warmer, more insect filled nights, I pitch the inner only....
