Re: 8mm Hex Bit

That would be great :-bd I'll pm you my details. I'll put some money in our Air Ambulance box anyway as you've got to go to the trouble of looking for it even if you don't find it.

Re: 8mm Hex Bit

Thanks.... I got all excited then until I saw they don't post to the Isle of Wight  But that's the thingy. Since my post a bit more surfing has found that some Topeak tools come with them so I'll look in the LBS later and then see if they can order spares for them.

8mm Hex Bit

I once saw a 6mm to 8mm hex bit converter thingy but can't remember where. It's a bit that is an 8mm hex bit but has a 6mm female hex in the end so you turn it with the 6mm key on your multi tool. I think one of these might be a good addition to the tool kit I take. My new cranks are held on with an...

Not the Isle of Wight Festival

So far this year I have been focused on racing but having finished the HT550 I felt it was time for a more relaxed trip. Previous bivi's this year had just been part of training rides but now I feel I can relax and enjoy the ride. As the wife was going to the festival I would have the weekend to mys...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

OK, I know it's Tuesday but I couldn't resist. My wife works in asthma and allergy research and when they test/weigh/measure the children in the study they get a little toy as a thank you for taking part. She was sent into town to buy a selection as they were running low. She sent me a picture of so...

Re: Cumulus 150 quilt.

Someone on here had one made - from memory it was 25Euro per baffle over and above the standard price. I have the original style 150 and I had an extra baffle added, I can't remember the exact price but it was about 25 Euro or so. It added about 4 weeks to the delivery time. They were easy to deal ...

Re: Defiant Seatpack - Not Very Defiant!

Cheers for the heads up. I've got a myog seatpack I use for my pump, tube and tools but it's not quite the right shape so doesn't fit very well. Perhaps I'll have to knuckle down and make a better one.

I've not got one but I had a promotional email for these the other day

I'm quite tempted, it's 1.3 lites so about the same size as your existing, cheap and it's got a 5 year warranty.

Sorry to go slightly off topic.... but my 2nd floor window looks out onto the High Street just across from Trespass (the outdoor shop) and every year I'm still surprised by the number of festival goers coming out of the shop with tents/sleeping bags/mats under their arms. Do they head out from home ...

PS. Zooming right in on that photo Sean, on the left on the doorstep, is what looks like a tiny panda poking its nose out of the door - it's white with a black nose, mouth and ears so it must be a panda. New pet? I'm afraid it's a dog, it's a sort of bristly shoe cleaner thing but it never gets use...

Yesterday the tyres for the new bike arrived at the LBS so today is cheery Friday as I'll be able to build it up this evening  Is it wrong that I made the existing bike carry the tyres for the new bike home? Especially as it's donating quite a few of its parts to the new bike. http://i1164.pho...

So it unscrews as you fasten the hose? The theory is that there is more tension on the unscrew as you have added pressure between the pump and valve on pumping. Also heat has expanded the valve head. But you're right, bloody silly idea. I'm out But at least when you attach the pump you haven'...

Re: What's the bikepacking connoisseurs rim of choice?

Some of them also have odd spoke patterns, I was asked to true a front that had probably only 24 spokes? radial laced and the spokes were in pairs with 2 close to each other then a big gap to the next pair. The worst buckle was mid way between two pairs of spokes, not much I could do with it.

I only use DT Swiss Competition with brass nipples, they just work. I refuse to true friends wheels if they have ali nipples, bladed spokes or are straight pull. This has 2 benefits, I don't have to faff with any of these options and as it's my roadie mates whose wheels seem to go out of true most o...

A 2nd recommendation for the Musson book. I also made my truing stand and nipple driver from the plans in the book. I had the timber already so it didn't cost me anything more than a Spokey to build my first wheels. The first 2 I built are on the wife's bike, best she tested my skills first  Wh...
