Re: The post man's been ...
And delivered a revelate tangle in camo and an old school carridice camper low saddle. I was looking at seat packs but some of the prices for stabilised ones are silly. The camper was £65 at sjs and looks like it will last a lifetime. I think my luggage is sorted now, I can get my tent, jetboil and ...

Re: Hip flask, I need a hip flask...
Whatever you choose make sure you lash it down well, at the end of October I camped on dunkery beacon and was horrified to find the small bottle of Jura superstition had escaped from my bag and was lost on exmoor. It was a horrific experience which I would not wish on anyone. Please drink irresponsi...

Just measured the brace on my surly at 3" so that should give you an idea of fit.

Re: Top tube, seat post bag
Revelate do the bent jerrycan, if you hang on a week or so I might sell my black one, MUST have a camo one to match my gas tank.
The jerrycan is quite small, I can fit a 29" tube, multi tool patches and a small bottle of sealant in mine but it's a squeeze

Re: Sleeping bag dilemma
I've not considered a quilt, might be versatile. Couldn't find the Cumulus 150 but looked at the PHD one, scary expensive but light. What do you reckon on alpkits version £99 and 1/3 a can of IPA heavier.
The difference would buy 106 cans of punk IPA which has to be a factor

Sleeping bag dilemma
I currently have a rab explorer 500 bag, it's a good bag and served me well but I'm after something a bit warmer and lighter. One thing I thought of was a high end bag such as a PHD minimus +8 or +5 bag to use as a liner in winter and standalone summer bag. My other option would be a more all round ...

Re: Lessons learned over Christmas
Don't dismiss the rohloff, the one you tried may have been new. New for a rohloff is under 2000 miles, mine has just got better and better and even the lower 7 gears are now quiet, with 6k on it its sublime. Also tree proof :-bd I changed the chain for the first tim at over 5000 miles and it's still...

Re: 2017 plans
My main plan is to be out for more nights, this year has been hard personally and professionally, my riding has been mainly day rides. In 2015 I rode lejog on my dummy, wild camping and about 25% of it off road. This trip made a big difference to my life outlook, although it didn't save my then 20yea...

Re: 29 plus rims
True an ECR with a rohloff will never be light but I came from a big dummy, my choices were something like ' what's a couple hundred extra grams, I've just shaved nearly 1/2 kg just by changing my crank! At the moment I'm still running a rear rack ( surly nice rack) and two front panniers on it so t...

I actually ordered a set of the dually's but after nearly 3 months of waiting got the KH rims. I'm now on a mission to cut weight from my kit and bike, 36 hole rims are now rare!Bearbonesnorm wrote:Beside the Blunt, Velocity also make a 36 hole Dually ... wider than a Blunt for proper, not pretent 29+

29 plus rims
Well I thought I was being smart (for once) when I built my rohloff wheel for my dummy, 36 hole rims made for strong wheels but it has come back to bite me , my ECR is running the rohloff on kris holm rims. While they have been tough they do weigh 850g each, any other rims out there for 36h hubs (pl...

I have a similar problem on my ecr, currently I have a surly nice rack which is bombproof, heavy and has loads of clearance. Re: Best SPD bikepacking shoes
I have the shimano MT91 boots, great in the wet for carrying extra water, it usefully runs down to the low heel and is retained the the gortex membrane, I like the SPD sandals but the toes are vulnerable to thorns and worse duck sh1t between the toes. Although you look like a numpty they work great ...

Re: Genesis Longitude 2017
I think part of the problem is full bikes always have the steering tube cut short, mainly for looks! Even my surly dummy was silly low. My Ecr is perfect with one spacer above the stem and a whole stack below, build your next bike from the frame or even get a new fork and don't cut it until you've pu...

Re: Navigation help
Well I'm not impressed with the garmin 810, screen is too small. It might end up being a very expensive bike computer. I'm playing with Gaia gps using open cycle maps with satellite images, varying the transparency to get the best of both. I wonder if I can still send the garmin back, already binned...
