Re: HT550 - 2024

160 male entrants for 35 places I hadn't heard that. Not great odds at all in that case, either from the off or via any reserve list. That also makes for 120 latent ITT attempts, assuming the group start wasn't the be-all and end-all. If I'm not the only one now thinking of going down that route ne...

Re: Bikepacking / ITT specific coaching.

A very common cause of not finishing long hard events is "my head went". So if you can build/train mental resilience then there's money to be made.
Having a positive outlook puts people a step ahead, but knowing how to deal with setbacks can be a learnt skill.

Re: Happy birthday Mr Large.

Thanks all - these birthdays come round faster and faster. Been out tonight with an uncle and cousin I've not seen for 20 years - really enjoyed it. And when I let the dogs out when I got home I thought it would be a cracking night for a bivvy. It was a good thought but now I'm wondering if I need t...

I can imagine that conversation. I also get my character traits explained to me (not by Dee though)!

I'm analogue, but I do use power tools and stuff to make life easier, especially for lengthy tasks.
And I'm lusting after a car that doesn't guess what I want and irritate the crap out of me!!

I have no idea where the barbed wire fence was that you climbed over - I definitely didn't do that! I think the land rovers on strategy florida were the same ones we had on the 2nd weekend. The water in strata florida was higher /faster the 2nd weekend- definitely a true taste of Wales though!! Grea...

At a complete tangent. Anyone fancy a 2014 route reunion ride? 7 years have completely dulled the memory and I found myself thinking about riding it again. It will be at least me and Stu (on the shopper) Edit: It’s 9 Edit 2: How did I ever get a degree in maths? I was half thinking of the goldilock...

As ever, thank you both for the effort you put in to the events and efforts you put in to keep BearBones running. It is a great place to be and a welcome relief from life's other pressures.
And this year the BB200 was quite hard!

Re: BB200 2023

Shaf, look at the map - the map path is right through boggy stuff. The detour goes round it. That part of Wales you follow the path on the ground.... That was a tough 200. Very Very wet on the ground. I think 18.5 hours total time, so Alex put an excellent time in!! If you have the strength and fitn...

The first 3 had a bit of the route called something like "where 5 rivers meet" and it was 200m of wading through cold flowing water. And several rivers did flow through it.
I won't forget that bit in a hurry

Re: What do you recall from your 2 days (BB200s)

Getting very cross when I got stuck in a fence around a pheasant enclosure towards the end of the 2014 edition. I was close to 24 hours and didn’t have the time to faff about in a fence! Eventually finished (my favourite version) in about 25 hours. Thought I might get lynched for that - I'd checked...

Agree Stu, experience and expectations count for a huge amount. The 300 only came about as more black badges on the 200 meant it had become achievable by many, and a further challenge was needed. This is one event that's different to the "open to all regardless" as its for the "open t...

It's a brilliant route - takes in loads of good trails. Definitely 2 days minimum and more like 3-4 to do in comfort. There are overnight under cover options if bivvying isn't popular - from the YHA at Ty- y - cornel to old churches to b&b's. I started at Caersws but only so I could get a (disap...
