Leg warmers - any recommendations?

I am looking for some leg warmers for a bit of a jaunt round Scotland in a months time. They need to be thin, lightweight, and not too warm as my legs don't tend to get cold (they are more to keep my legs tick and midge free, whilst giving the option to cool off if the weather gets warm) . Anyone us...

Re: Bikepacking tips

On the GPS via SP hub subject - don't connect the hub straight to the GPS - you risk expensive damage to the GPS. You need to smooth out the fluctuating voltage using a small voltage stabiliser - see other threads on Sinewave or other units. Or you can do what I do: buy a PortaPow battery pack (£15)...

Re: 1 man tents !!!

I have a TN laser comp, and it is brilliant. Light, roomy for one, easy access and can be put up outer only, and outer first. Haven't used it for a year or so though as I use a bivvy and tarp now. Never tried any others but Go Outdoors seem to have a few cheap 1 man tents at the moment.

Re: Dull sleeping bag poll.

I only have 1 sleeping bag, so it kind of makes my choice for me. Summer or winter, my Rab top bag seems warm enough, if it's cold I just layer up.

Re: In To The Wind - Video from WC2C

Great video - I remember some of those bits! The final stream near llantrwyd wells that you boys waded through was about 4-6 inches deep when I got there on Friday! Although if you continued on the track, through a horse field there was a bridge (near the farm).

Re: Wales Tour: Great Orme to Worm's Head

Advice for anyone thinking of doing this ride: take 3 or 4 days, avoid the last bit of Sarn Helen as it's just bad. Avoid the nightlife in Neath - there's some scary things who come out at night! The 1st 100 miles Is brilliant riding and spectacular views.

Re: Wales Tour: Great Orme to Worm's Head

Great Orme to Swansea in 2 days. A brilliant 2 days of riding, but quite a toughie! 203km on day 1 and 192km on day 2. Almost made it to Worms Head but couldn't quite face another 2 hours after 18 hours riding. I'll post more when I've got my head together.

Re: Wales Tour: Great Orme to Worm's Head

Neil, sounds like a tough trip. I had to postpone my trip from last week to this week - I start riding Weds night and aim to finish Friday late. You're welcome to join me - if you have dried out! How wet is it? I seem to remember not much mud from last year, but is this just my memory playing tricks...

Re: Highland trail 550!!

There's an alternative road route suggested to avoid the river crossing, so that is quite a long way off course, plus if any detour adds time rather than shortcuts it then it can't be counted as cheating can it?

Re: Shoes - A quandary.

Reading Ian's and Aiden's write ups from last year I have moved away from the "keep water out" philosophy of waterproof SPD boots (MW80's) to "cheap SPD XC shoes" (Spescialized Comp MTB) - enough rigidity in the sole for the cycling bits, enough flexibility for the pushing bits, ...

Re: GPS Fears, Spares and Maps...

On the Garmin 800, I have always struggled to add a "POI" or control location to a route (or course) (using memory map) Are there any hints/tips on how I add a control location to a route in Memory Map then get it into the Garmin? (So, for example, I want to add a food shop onto a route - ...

Re: GPS Fears, Spares and Maps...

For overnighters or ITTs where the route is important I usually take paper maps printed off memory map - at 1:50k. Normally this is less than 10 A4 sheets so it's not a big deal (in a bag or 2). For the HTR I have 29 A4 sheets at 1:65k, and will halve this when I print them double sided, so for me t...

Re: Endurance ... When do the scales tip?

I think it depends who you are doing the event with. There are some people that you might find 4 hours of quite an endurance event. It also depends on fitness and pace - your average trail centre weekend rider may find 4 hours riding a real test. For many on this forum, we're keen on the longer ride...

Ah yes, forgotten that one, but it was just a couple on the steps of their camper van at the Claerwen reservoir dam. Not sure if that counts as real dogging or just a bit of al fresco fruitiness!

Re: Unexpected Hazards of cycling

I got taken out by a deer a few years ago during a night race. It was the 1st lap of the Dusk til Dawn at Thetford Forest, and about 2-3 miles in there was a big commotion in the undergrowth along side the line of riders, closely followed by a deer jumping across the track and hitting my back wheel,...

I did exaggerate a little - it's actually 9.2kg, but the 20kg of luggage will stop it pinging everywhere  The spec is quite sensible as well - Reba SL forks, Novatec/Crest wheels, RRalph rear and Nobby Nic front, plus Thomson seatpost and Mt Zoom/KCNC bars and stem. Brakes are Hope Evo Race (w...

I'm struggling on this one. I have a TN laser lite with the carbon 1g pegs and love it. I have 2 Spesh bikes, and now 2 Planet X bikes. I quite like them all. I have only ever bought a multi tool from superstar though as I could touch and feel it. Their stems and seat posts looked like very cheap ca...
