Clean it after a filthy ride up in Kielder, and found a crack in the chainstay.....

RIP my Dirty Harry - now what?

Not Clint, but my 2013 Planet X Dirty Harry that I've cherished from a very early age..... After numerous BB200/300's, 4 x HT550's, 1 x Tour Divide and lots of smaller stuff (over 20,000km) the chainstay has decided it's had enough. I repaired the carbon a couple of years ago, then again just before...

Re: Memory maps on iphones

I use MM on my Samsung phone. I did import the maps somehow and transferred the licence, and then bought new maps a year ago in a sale (the originals were at least 10 years old and of questionable heritage). Seemed to work OK for a luddite like me, but I'd suggest following the instructions to the l...

Re: Cargo Bib Shorts

I got some for the Tour Divide last year - Endura ones. Very comfy and the pockets were used occasionally for food when I couldn't fit it anywhere else. Also credit cards that I couldn't afford to lose. I don't find the pockets useful for everyday riding though - I use jersey pockets for normal stuf...

I'm more worried that it's in the house Stu not the workshop. Unless you have a very neat workshop....

Top work though - will it be a bit noodley though?

Was that the fence around a pheasant enclosure or something? Across a bridleway (hence the person on a bike shaped hole).

The memories are slowly returning.... I don't think a rerun is on the cards

Just thinking back to 2014, the only bits I remember that were really bad were the 2 sections of tussocky hike a bike before the Coed y brenin climb.
Were there more?

Re: Route archive.

Stu , is the Big Bear the original 520 route or the 530 v2 version? (I haven't looked)

Plus, are you thinking this could be expanded to have other routes (WC2C, TCW etc etc)

Just got this from Steve yesterday - cheers pal

Just got to say that it looks a brilliant piece of kit. Pump, tools, tyre plugs, patches and co2 cartridge all in 1 package. And well made so it hopefully won't fall apart the first time it's used.

I do this, but a word of warning. Weigh the can before, not the weight on the can which states it's full weight..... But never over fill this weight on the can, because it's easy to do and it makes lighting your burner like dodging a volcano with no control. How would someone know that? 😄

Re: WTD: Flat bar or small Riser

Got some Mt Zoom flat bars. Not sure if they are 680mm wide but they are light *circa 150g or less I think.

You can have then for £20 ish as I don't like selling carbon bars (or any bars). They're never crashed as far as I can remember.

Or just double wrap any grip tape??

I just use ITM or PlanetX stuff on my road bike, for the Tour Divide I used Ergon grips and standard bar tape on the aero bars.

Re: Do you remember your first time?

I think I got the sleeping outdoors bug in the cubs, then aged about 13 or 14 a few mates rode from Warwick to Malvern youth hostel and stayed overnight - I remember pouring over OS maps sorting a route out, and loading panniers with gear. A while later we did a 4 or 5 night youth hostel tour ending...

Re: RIP Nita Larronde of the Toaster House

I only met her relative, Jefferson. He was super nice bloke. Lots of bits of food in the cupboards with eat by dates well in the past, but it was a useful stop. There was a plaque on the wall outside to a fella who'd died on the 1st or 2nd ever RAAM or similar back in 2002. I did wonder if he was th...

A 2018 Spesh Epic, 2nd hand but from the bike shop owner... Next bike will be a nice road bike as my existing bike is a 2012 Ribble with 40k miles on. I'd love an SWorks Tarmac but I want it to look super special and their current paint is not what I want. Thinking of custom but then I'm all out of ...
