Re: Normandy

I often take my van to France if there are a few of us and leave it on a campsite in what the French call a garage de mort or dead garage for €3 a night. They mostly advertise this option. Not usually available on a municipal but you can try cheers Peter

Re: Pillows

I use a Exped inflatable with thin bungee to hold it on the Thermarest otherwise it dissapears. Had about 200 nights on this no problems. I use Thermarest foam pillow in the van and on long tours they are worth a look.

Re: Does anyone use a synthetic sleeping bag.?

The PHD can sometimes be annoying cos of some flst spots here and there and last BAM at Kinder Scout (2000ft up in the Peaks) in roughly 5 to 7 degreesC, I found an annoying flat/cold spot around where my back was. I was in the PHD and just a Hunka XL Bivy with the Thermarest Neo mat inside. Luckil...

Re: Does anyone use a synthetic sleeping bag.?

Thanks guys will stick with my down and use a bivvi bag. Just overthinking again and looking for an excuse to save £99 by spending £100 on a bright yellow Mountain Hardwear Bag. Cheers

Re: Seam sealing

I usually try stuff under the hose or something before I seal it sometimes its not required. Sealed a Lux Octopeak and at the start of a 3 month tour it leaked like a sieve. My mistake was using the crap silicone supplied, putting it on thick even though I thinned it a bit,not pulling the seams taug...

Does anyone use a synthetic sleeping bag.?

I have used a down bag of sorts for 20 years climbing, tramping, sea kayaking, bike touring and more recently bike packing. However, going down the tarp route now instead of tents and looking at something I am not going to worry about getting damp etc. I have always thought synthetic bags as cold an...

Re: Hilleberg Akto

Hi folks was going to buy an Akto to replace my one man tents. Could not raise the funds so I went for a Fjallraven Abisko Light 1 which I bought new for £400 with the footprint. This tent is a copy of the Akto slightly lighter, slightly larger very well made with some nice features I am well please...

Re: Riding through the night

A I hour kip in a bus shelter might be the answer so I have heard. I used to get really cold feet as well. Changed to flat pedals and sensible footwear stopped it on long rides for me with no loss of time which was slow anyway.

Re: Folding bikes

Having said Heinz Stucke in his late 60's did 55,000k over 9 years, touring on a standard 6 speed Brompton including the Dempster Highway. I would have paid the premium for the Rollhof over the Alfine. Kenetics may have some different options to what I was given. Had no problems with the Alfine 11 t...

Re: Folding bikes

I tour a lot on a Brompton with up to 20kg of Luggage and did not like the six speed found it weird spacing so had a 11 speed Alfine fitted. Transforms the bike but however not cheap but I use it a lot. I used Graham Tiller for this but think he has retired for the moment. The Rollhof is too low gea...

Re: Brooks saddles

I like a B17 but I have heard a few horror storied about getting the underside wet. I use a C17 on bikes without mudgards find it just as comfy. A few people I know use Selle Italia saddles like the Regal they are about £35 from On One Cheers Peter

Ortlieb saddlebag. pretty much new. 9/10 £60
