Re: Another Bahookie Build
Yes, they were - it was a pre-loved Rohloff. In the end it all came to bits anyway as we completely re-did the routing to work around a Mountain Lion harness. Also changed the angle on the axle plate so the shifter box sat closer to the chainstay. Easy to do? I may be building one up from scratch s...

Were the cables and outers already installed to the shifter box?First acquaintance with a Rohloff and quite tricky getting the cables to sit right

There was a trailer at Kyelstrome that offered bike hire, it seemed to have a few spare bits and tools in it.

Tori Fahey from Canada is the CEO.
She's done the Tour Divide and some other bikepacking stuff.

Re: tarp and footprint or tent
There were plenty of midges last year.
I did not regret carrying a tent.
Don't rely on there being a bed at all the bothies. I know of one that was full when I passed in the evening.

Unless you know up there, this very true. The only problem wi th using a gps is that you can lose perspective of where you actually are
AlasdairMc plotted the route on road atlas scale maps, which I used for daily orientation.

Re: Highland Trail 2015
Hi rich. You have said on the forum before that you break a gpx down into small tracks. As not to overload the unit. But how do you do this. I have tried before using a few different programs. But never getting it to work. Thanks. Chris I have "Tracklogs" software which trims a route to a...

Re: Highland Trail 2015
Get a second GPS. I took one last year as backup.
Make small gpx files. I have 9 for the route. <500 trackpoints each. Set the record frequency to least often.
Happy GPS.

Testing our new tent.
We thought we might head out last night and try out our new Alpkit Ordos 2 tent.
I also thought I might try and shoot some video with my Fuji X10.
It chews through the battery, hence the lack of continuity in the video.

Re: TMB in September
I'm interested. I've done it over 3 days before (~24 hours of riding). I'd be happy to go round in 5 if there was a group ride.
If there's an ITT in 2016 I'd like to get round sub 24.
Last week in August is the latest I could do it to fit in with school holidays though.

Re: Highland Trail 2015
Anyone else planning to do HT550 using maps only? Consider myself a competent navigator (famous last words!) but would appreciate anyone's thoughts as to trickiest parts of the route navigation-wise. Some of the top section is not easy to see on the ground. Unless you are a very good navigator, I'd...

It should work fine, it's only got 2747 trackpoints.
Save as a track, not a route.
What's with the 100 waypoints?

I'm after a primaloft top for Tom (10 years old), similar in weight to the Montane Fireball, so less than 300gms
Any idea?

Last year I looked at the LH of the two gates which only seemed to be fastened with ~300 cable ties and some wire. Probably 45 mins work with the right equipment.

Alan has kindly been and had a look on the ground today at ways of avoiding that gate (still locked) and hasn't come up with a better way.Would that small detour mentioned above be allowed?

A hybrid polish down pied d'elephant sleeping bag. Down at the bottom, and pertex to keep the drafts out up top. Weight 390gms. For me, the down comes up to my ribs, but I've specifically bought it for Minipips as a full length bag. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e124/ardsei/IMAG1610_1_zpsqc9goau...

I plan my own routes on mapping software at home (or use others .gpx files), and then upload to my Garmin Dakota.
I don't use maps and compasses anymore.
