Direct me nowhere
I am trying to make a set of direction rules that I can follow anywhere I start and turn it into an adventure. I have already got; Gradient percentage signs must always be followed Straight on if an option First turning off a nasty road Veto any tracks already ridden in that direction Within an hour...

Re: Which extra would keep me warmer?
Fan of the hot water bottle when you get caught out colder than expected and also have a stove and spare fuel. If you expect zero in the nights then you will probably have other warmer clothes for on the bike so make use of them sleeping too

Re: bikepacking in the Elan Valley
It did felt like selling the dream rather than telling a story to people who have lived and breathed the reality of that dream. Nowt wrong with making a video like that to fund a lifestyle of cycling as long as you are reasonably clear that that’s what you’re doing which the hyperlinks and look at m...

I rate this no fly policy so much makes it more of an adventure. Along with the encouragement to get women bikepacking and general plan freedom ethos. Great job Jameso

Re: What's the weekend got in store?
Will trip write up in more details and usual daft imaginary over on adventures section, but did bit of a ride to my parents in Birmingham which ended up being quite indirect and my longest time in the saddle. Had breakfast then bed on Saturday. Sunday was a BBQ then pubba dub dub. Monday me and my b...

Re: Stroud - Mach n back
Very strong first trip! Plenty of good bits in that write up. Solid commitment to take that on and glad you were so pleased with how it went. As others have mentioned, stuff is rarely perfect so those blagging skills put you in a solid position. After years I am still taking seemingly obvious lesson...

Re: A little comp: Most imaginative/colorful Ride
Now I am not too great with taking pictures while bikepacking, they are badly framed and never capture the best bits. What I will back is my imagination and colourful language, in the nice sense. Just another commute Now I am relatively new to this whole adult job rubbish and was complaining about i...

Re: Sorting out a multiday bikepacking trip.
Or is it just a case of getting on the bike and getting out and see what happens and where I could end up...... Essentially yes. If you can do one night then you can do two, then if you can do two you can do three ect. On longer trips the weather forecast can’t be as reliable so you may want that e...

Re: If you were offered sponsorship...
I used to get paid to ride my bike when I was 14. It was £21 a week plus tips at Christmas. Then again while at uni, this time my hourly rate was much better but I couldn’t rely on getting enough productive hours in. Now I have a desk job solving maths problems, which I mostly enjoy, and earn more t...

I find the sun a perfectly adequate indicator of time when out bikepacking. Weighs less than 007’s Rolex too, well actually it weighs significantly more now I think about it.

Good game. Lots of time for this. The first to come to mind is that cuppa I had in Hathersage. Still young an naiive I had set off from Jack's in February in a Southerly direction hoping to get home to Birmingham. Proper frosty and with a synthetic sleeping bag and foam mat I was doing interval slee...

Where about are you based for collection?
I’m on a bit of a hype of picking arbitrarily destinations and challenges then just doing them on my bike. Carrying a spare wheel home sounds stupid fun.

Is a gravel bike simply not a hybrid with drops? Would many people not actually be better suited to a flat barred gravel bike which may or may not then look very much like an late 80's or early 90's mountainbike? Really like the idea of calling any bike that are not dedicated to road or downhill a ...

Shine Brighton you Crazy Diamond
For a while now I have dreamed of riding off into the sunset and right through into sunrise. The usual excuses kept raising their heads and other bike trips happened instead. This all changed two weeks ago in the blasting sun when I mentioned I wished I was eating an ice-cream at the beach. Obviousl...

If I had a large group of bikepacking pals all in one place for a theoretical event I’d like to hold the bikepacking equivalent of the fixie ally cats. Events like the hurdles over gates, some tarp pitching, dangley mug jousting where you have to fill competitors mug with water/sheep muk, skid conte...

Re: a dislike of bikepacking luggage. anyone else?
I used two small ortlieb front loader panniers on a low rider when I did the TNR. I wouldn’t use them on anything too technical, I draw the line at two wheels almost always being on the ground, but with the weight low and over the front wheel I felt solid reliable grip when cornering and could lean ...
