https://bikepacking.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/Linda-Gryczan-2021-tour-divide-2000x1333.jpg in the morning, I roll up my tent, pad and sleep robe like a burrito, stuff it in the large bag, and I’m on my way not sure if genius or madness! Holy Moley! I think I'm pretty open minded about other people's bike setup but there is some craaaaaazy sub standard going on there!

Re: New Alpkit Bikepacking Bags

I'd wager that a lot of customers buying these bars are not aware of Jones and where those bars originated I think this is true knowing how many people now believe the loop to be a glorified hanging bracket, with the idea of multiple hand positions not having entered their heads  At Shand, we...

Re: Plus or Fat

I have a full fat (4.8") and a 650B+ (3"). I tend to ride them mostly on the same terrain (except the beach where it's always fat). I tend to grab the plus bike if I feel like I want to go faster. Fat bike if I'm just bimbling. Truth is, I'm probably as fast on the fatbike, it just feels s...

Re: New Alpkit Bikepacking Bags

I think a trap that a lot of us fall into is assuming that the consumer is educated and knows the difference between a cheaper copy of something and the original that perhaps is made of better quality materials and/or has better backup. I think the Alpkit loop style or H-style bars are a good exampl...

Re: New Alpkit Bikepacking Bags

I think being influenced by existing designs is cool. Looking at something and thinking "that's neat but I know how to make it even better" is something that happens all the time and it's how most progress comes about. What I don't understand is the mentality of looking at something, think...

Re: Front rack on a salsa firestarter fork?

Not sure I can think of anything that bolts to the crown and the lowrider mount. The lowrider mount on the side is designed to be a specific distance from an eyelet at the dropout so distance between that mount and the crown will vary with fork length making it tricky to get a universal fit. A lot o...

Re: Harnesses that play nice with a Jones bar

I found with my wildcat harness that the straps rubbed against the lower headset cup, and any bag in it rubbed against the head tube, likely due to me using a 50mm stem. I bolted on one of those Ortleib light bars onto the fork crown - just a plastic bar spaced out about an inch - and attached the ...

Re: Harnesses that play nice with a Jones bar

Re: forks it’s the fact my Brother Big Bro has a unicrown fork and I can see the straps slipping up up the fork as the crown is curved. I'm not sure that's an issue. I use a Lion harness on forks like these without any issues at all. https://www.shandcycles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Bahookie-R...

Boners? Loch Tay/Glen Almond/Auchnafree

Passed a bunch (5 or 6) of riders earlier today heading up the hill from Loch Tay towards Auchnafree and Glen Almond. Looked like they had more kit than a day ride. I was thinking maybe an HT550 shakedown. Anyone from here?

Re: Harnesses that play nice with a Jones bar

Hello. Can I ask what people are doing in this regard? Seems to me that the ideal option for a roll / harness for the Jones bar would be to have 4 straps to secure to the upper / lower part of the loop. Not many manufacturers show photos of their bags with loop bars - wildcat do but I’m really put ...

I've been looking into this recently and had come to the conclusion that we don't need visas for travel to France (for up to 90 days). Mind you my information is from the UK side, not the French side. from here : https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/france/entry-requirements Regular entry requir...

I picked up a DJI Osmo last year and love it. Haven't used a Go Pro other than a reeeeeaaaaalllllly old version years ago so can't really comment on whether it's better or not. Never had to do anything to the firmware. It just works. Maybe not the most intuitive interface but once you get use to it,...

Re: Damage to carbon frame

If you look through my history Chris you'll notice that I took a hammer and dremel to mine and a couple of carbon blades... Couldn't actually break it properly (Sonder Transmitter carbon which was at about 1100g for the frame) and ended up giving up. You'd be surprised how strong these things are I...

What weight are we talkong here pls Steven and what kind of prices
I'd be hoping for a weight around 100g, hopefully lighter. Prices still to be confirmed. Won't be cheap Chinese drybag prices though.

Re: Suggest a posh 8L welded drybag?

We (Wildcat) have a new drybag out soon. It's basically the same design as our double ended bag if you know that (really 2 lightweight drybags enclosed in a wrapper). The wrapper on the new bag is an abrasion resistant fabric so is more suitable to be used when strapped directly to stuff (like the d...

Ok, but that wasn't really the case. I think it was much better. The PS one I assume you had to start with suffered because the only thing keeping the 2 shells in phase were the bolts that pulled the 2 shells together. If the BB was tensioned by rotating both cups at the same time, my experience was...

Anyone tried one of those eccentric bottom bracket conversions for a PF30 BB shell? Niner and 'Beer Components' (nee White Industries) seem to be the only ones going. I'm idly contemplating a frame with a PF30 shell for a singlespeed thing... (No Press fit BB chit chat please  ) I'd stay away...
