Re: Overseas purchases and imports

A product made in the UK but can't be bought by UK customers because it's dispatched from the EU. The entire shitshow just gets shittier  I think that example is about as stupid as it gets but it's also a little bit of an inaccurate headline grabber (the story, not your posting of it). It's m...

Re: Overseas purchases and imports

Happy to be proved wrong, but pretty sure Steve is right on this. Each company gets an 'EU Sales' doc. As we're now 'out' of the EU, HMRC will still require the tax revenue, but it appears that they're trying to collect it via a different method.. On re-reading this, I'm not sure I was correct. I w...

Re: Overseas purchases and imports

I'm a touch perplexed that UK / HMRC expect overseas businesses to collect VAT and then pay it to the UK. Surely such businesses are not governed by UK law (sure sales into UK customers are but the companies themselves are located outside it). So how is UK Govt / HMRC going to enforce it? Internati...

Re: SS road bikes for touring

MIght be worth having a chat with Stu at Shand. Everytime I look, he seems to have built himself another SS touring/bikpacking/audax bike. The fact that he has so many does sort of suggest that he hasn't quite worked out what works though!

Re: Is Anyone Using Tideace Forks?

Alan, have you contacted Shand to see if they sell the carbon fork for they use on their fat bike? They will sell them if you ask nice  . Call (01506 435 400) and speak to Dean (or email contact@shandcycles.com) and tell him Steven said you should get a good deal. They can supply them black o...

Re: Kindergarten geometry playground

Thinking of bikes as 2 linked diagrams helps for me - 1 diagram is the side view of the 3 contact points as a triangle, the other is where the wheels are in relation to that triangle. eg ^^^ this times 1 billion ^^^ Fit and riding geometry are 2 things that constantly get mixed up all the time. I u...

Re: Surly LHT 26, where to buy in europe?

LHT is now discontinued. The UK distributor have no 62cm. I doubt you'll find a dealer with one of those in stock, it would be a special order only. QBP (US distributor and Surly parent Company) only have 62cm in stock in the 700c version. So this makes it virtually impossible for any Surly dealers ...

Re: Bar end plugs

Ison Distribution used to do a workshop jar with about 50 plugs in them. IIRC cost (to trade) was about 30p each. Don't think they'll supply direct to consumer but if it's for Bikeability, it might be worth giving them a call.

Re: Canyon sizes

Just put my dimensions in and it's come up with a 'small'. I'm 176cm with a 83cm inseam and almost bang on a medium in most other brands I've looked at. However, looking at the dimensions for the Canyon 'small', it looks pretty bang on actually. I'm actually working on a basic fit advisor system rig...

Could have them any colour I think too. Boost, 528ATC, 51mm offset.

I've acquired some cheap old Apex and Rival 10sp shifters Note that not all shifters can be converted, you need the Zero Loss ones really. I don't think you can convert the Apex. I don't share lune ranger's experience of high levels of faff setting it up. In fact I don't find it any harder than the...

I have the Thermarest and love it. I like the footbox. I'm not sure I understand the footbox thing on the Cumulus but the idea of zips down there at my feet doesn't fill me with excitement.

GCN have Manon Lloyd who is good on the road side and Katherine Moore on the off road side, Katherine does the Unpaved gravel/bikepacking podcast too, Katherine hasn't worked there for over a year. Emma Pooley didn't last long either. Both really added something to the channel. Just to add that Jen...

Re: DeWidget Strapdeck

The brand spanking new, amazingly named, 'drj0n Bagworks Double Trouble Triple Strapdeck' is a bigger platform that's compatible with the GFunk (as well as regular triple and double cage mounts). 180mm x 53mm so quite a bit bigger than the 'large' Strapdeck. Doesn't really change the recommended max...

Re: Are all braze on clamp adapters equal??

But the front mech is hitting the crank. If you move the crank out by 2.5mm, the ring also goes out and so you'd need to move the front mech by the same amount so it'll still hit the crank. I read it as an issue when on the big ring (chain rub on smallest cogs).

Re: Are all braze on clamp adapters equal??

So do you think the adapter could be moving the mech too far out? If the mech is setup correctly (correct position relative to the chainring) then it's still going to be in that same position no matter the braze-on adapter you're using no? Changing the adapter (or fitting a BB spacer) won't change ...

Re: Help please (before I get the big file out!)

I had a similar issue and ended up turning down down of the endcaps which solved the problem. However when measuring the endcaps to decide what needed to be taken off I noticed that not all of them were coming up the same width. And in fact just swapping sides would have solved the problem. But as s...

It bolts onto your dropper post and your strap wraps round this instead of the post so protects it from damage. Also provides a stop to prevent you dropping your post low enough to mangle your bag or harness on the rear tyre.

Dropper/Seatpack thingamy

I've seen a few people ask recently about fitting seatpacks to dropper posts. We (Wildcat) have a dropper sleeve that was originally designed to work with our new Tiger seat harness (which is still delayed  ). It was originally designed specifically for our Tiger but if it seems like there's a ...

Re: Harness V Cradle help

Apologies for the dull question; I've not used Voile straps before for securing bags on the bike. What size/length do I need to use with a strap-deck cradle to secure 5 and 8 litre size dry-bags? I think 20" works well or 25" if you want the added security wrapping round the bars too. Lon...
