Re: What 1 person shelter?

I've done it. I've ordered an Altaplex, in the slightly heavier dark green fabric.

Holy cr*p. I'm never buying another shelter. Ever!

Re: What 1 person shelter?

(Something to note here...I was running it with a single pole on the front only at the time...there was a bit of slack in the back and I held it up during said storm. There were a couple of moments where the tent sucked in and popped back out rather alarmingly but it never tore. I've since gotten a...

Re: Travel insurance

I crashed on the Camino de Santiago a couple of year ago and had to go and get patched up at a doctors surgery. It wasn't anywhere remote and I rode away from it and paid nothing with the EHIC card. As far as paying for costs of normal travel / replacement gear then I think I might tend to agree wit...

Re: Inspired to Ride Trailer

I contributed to the Kickstarter campaign so had a pass to watch it this weekend - really enjoyed it. More than RtD, which I also enjoyed. The mix of nationalities - including a couple of Brits, Italians etc means I didn't feel that it was to 'American' at all. Makes me want to go on a long road bik...

What Stu said :-) Gravel and fire roads give you the 'off road' element with the added satisfaction of actually making some progress and covering some ground!

Re: Tubeless 29er Tyres - Any Recommendations

Hey Lee, I know we talked about this separately but just to add my two pence worth to this thread - on my Ogre last year through France and Spain I used 29 x 2.4 Ardent EXOs. Mainly for the volume as I wanted cushioning for carrying a decent load on the trail and the bike is set up with rigid forks....

Re: Travel insurance

I've used Dogtag a few times, as exactly what activities they cover at each level is very clear. I originally found them because I was struggling to find diving cover that explained properly what was included and excluded. You can log into their website to show the level of your cover to medical pro...

Re: Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo

Thanks guys. Yeah, I should stop trying to think that there is a perfect shelter out there... :-)

Maybe a look at yours when you're back could be a good plan. Though enjoy your honeymoon first, and congratulations on getting married Dan!

I've got one. Ticks all the boxes. I use a sheet of polycro as a footprint. Re: What 1 person shelter?

I had an Altaplex and pole in my shopping basket on Friday but just couldn't hit 'buy'...!

This may help. Any thoughts on whether the heavier cuben fibre (0.71) is worth going for?

Re: What 1 person shelter?

vaguely exciting, thanks that's great. If you were buying one now, what would you get: Solplex, Altaplex, Duplex (not much heavier but potentially much more flexible) or Hexamid??

I'm torn!

Scattamah wrote:Alas, I haven't as I'm a Solplex user (which is pretty spanky in its own right).
Very similar, just smaller and slightly different shape to the Altaplex (two poles rather than one?)

So you'd recommend the, despite the cost? How is the condensation?

PANNIER - new bike travel website

Haven't seen a post about this yet (sorry if I've missed it) so thought I'd pop up a link to a new bike travel website - PANNIER - that launched a few weeks ago. Whilst its name probably gives away the fact that its not bikepacking specific by any means, don't all go running for your tarps - it cove...

Re: What 1 person shelter?

Zpacks Solplex, Hexamid Solo or Altaplex. Greetz S. Despite the cost, I'm very tempted by the Altaplex, but there aren't many reviews around of it in actual use. There are, however, shed loads of very positive reviews about the Duplex, which is only a little big heaver but potentially much more fle...
