Re: Scotland 24

Day 12 A dry night and a low oif 7 degrees so another good lights sleep. This was the second bivi by the sea, I'll have to look for similar locations on the Island but none spring to mind? Maybe on the mainland over Swanage direction? Suggestions welcome by PM. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53...

...the sign on Saturday morning that the tunnel is open 24 hours in July and August, but the lights are turned off at night ( I assume so that the bats can sleep) Don't bats sleep in the day and go out to feed at night :???: That's why they live in caves (and tunnels) as they are dark in the day ti...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...

what I object to is 'standard' bikes having their name/description retrospectively changed to 'non-ebikes' ..... no, they're 'bikes' and ebikes are 'ebikes', bikes have been around a lot longer and therefore it's the newcomers that get the clunky name .... That's dodgy ground as a 'bicycle' is real...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Surely bad news would have been an alert to say you'd just made a payment of £12.5k for a watch? It's just the stress of having to deal with a call centre based abroad. Luckily all sorted now. Anyhoo, looks like a nice night out that. It was  If I hadn't needed to get up for work I'd happily ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Another school night bivi for me due to time constraints. I usually do a these on a Thursday as even though I sleep well it's nice to only have the Friday left at work and they're just the wind-down for the weekend anyway  Unfortunately the forecast for Thursday night is rain so decided to get...

Re: Aviemore to Dalgety Bay

The Pictish trail goes past there. Start on the CL in Aviemore, then the section shared with the Pictish then Pictish to Dalgety Bay? Depending on how long you have, instead of starting in Aviemore you could get a train up to anywhere on the Pictish that works out right for distance, it goes past a ...

This bridge?

Photo taken from Strava which now has pictures on the 'maps' section, very handy. The heatmap does show some crossings but not very many.

Re: Scotland 24

Day 11 Alice was up and away early as she wanted to get to Dundee, long gone by the time we were up. We packed up in the rain but at least the wet weather brought an improvement in the temperatures with the overnight low of a giddy 10 being the warmest night yet  Headed out in full waterproofs ...

Re: Woods Rat Run - one goes slightly carefree in Dorset

Charlie sold up and moved up north, Hebden Bridge I think. The business was bought and moved to Rippon. The lads that run it are really sound so it's a good continuation of the business, the personal touch Charlie was famous for. They're always really helpful. As for the KAW, when I rode it with Mik...

I'd be interested in it. I'm thinking of riding it, or parts of it so even just some photos and notes on the best/worst bits would be appreciated.

Wareham forest is on my list for an off Island BAM at some point as it's within rideable distance from home.

Day 10 Although the hide had provided dry shelter neither of us has anticipated just how cold it would get in the night. It had got down to 5 degrees but it felt much colder. The cow returned on occasions to check we were still there, or make sure we weren't getting too much sleep  Due to the c...

Good that, cheers for finding Bob. I wonder if she will make me a stainless steel SS gravel frame? She might, she did her HT550 ITT single speed. I think she holds the ladies ss record. Day 9 It had rained in the night and the sea sounded very rough but there was only a slight breeze at the tents so we must have been protected by the dunes. Whilst getting changed out of my sleeping kit I spitted a bit of dirt on my.... my.. erm... well you know what. Further investigation revealed ...

Re: Tubeless pump?

I've had problems with the unscrewing valve thing too regardless of screwing the valve core in as hard as I dare. Any link on the presta chuck? Screw the pump on less not the vales in harder. The pump has an o ring to seal, it only needs to contact the valve to seal. I spin the hose between two fin...

I had a pleasant chat with a Kiwi bikepacker who related pretty much the same tale to me when I met her just next to the Forth Railway Bridge when I was out on a ride on the 18th June. Pictish Trail completed, she was heading into Edinburgh to stay with friends (I think) for a couple of days before...

I'd run it singlespeed all the time so the guide would be surplus. One of the things I love about my Selma is there are no cable guides for gears and (with the right dropout fitted) not even a mech hanger.
