Re: Not the HT550

I suspect this might have had something to do with being forced to hang the bike up by the back wheel on the train to Tyndrum. Good read and an example of just go with the flow. I met that guard going the other way FW to Tyndrum. Definitely a rule 1 violator. He was such an arse. A lot of them are ...

Re: Not the HT550

Nice one guys, - broken bikes, bogs, tussocks, boat rides and drunk people - a proper adventure. Well done for getting through in one piece. :-bd Re the north side of Loch Etive trail - the track starts at 10316 44081 just above the shore line about 1.5k from the road end about 100m above the loch ...

Re: Not the HT550

I dont know how i missed this when it was posted, but you two are granite! I only posted it yesterday so you are pretty quick off the mark  Not sure I feel like granite, when we bailed, hid from the rain and needed quite a lot of help, but it came good in the end. It was actually me that was g...

Re: Not the HT550

As ever, that's an excellent write-up Bridget. Good on both of you for persevering and finally managing to complete a memorable journey, regardless of all the slings and arrows that came your way. Fingers crossed for a less incident-packed trip next time out eh! PS: It is indeed a small worl...

Re: Saint Malo-Hondarribia on EV1

Thanks for the extra info, I wasn't aware of any gates or lifts. Either way, I have to take the trailer as I can't put panniers on my bikes as they have no rack bosses and are already close to the recommended weight limit just with me on them. The alternative would be to buy another bike and fit it...

Yeah - it was an unknown quantity in the other direction so it was difficult to make the call.

Just after this it went to sub standard.. https://i.postimg.cc/3xL6MX6s/5-BCEAA46-223-D-4082-9-A92-E2-AF4948613-A.jpg It's not easy to tell from the photo, but I think you are pretty much directly across from where we got dropped off (and camped). What year did you take this photo out of interest?

Re: Not the HT550

The weegies.... six days To be fair to them as well, that's a good effort too - sat there in exactly the same place for a week doing nowt but drink themselves into a stupor. Goodness knows how they navigated out. One of them was a lot more pissed than the other. I was hugely relieved when he turned...

Re: Not the HT550

Great adventure and kudos for pushing on! The trains really are a joke up here, and the conductors seem a law into themselves! Scotrail are on strike on a sunday on a lot of the line just now meaning that Corrour is closed on a Sunday now, Not sure about Rannoch station Cafe on a sunday as there is...

Re: Not the HT550

That track on the north side gets better. I’ve done it from the other way and the bit at the top of the loch is by far the worst. Edit. About 3-4km from the end of the road it turns back to double track. That's really interesting right enough. So we were probably half way to something rideable in t...

Wow, B, if anything qualifies as 'epic' that is it. So many knock-backs, so many bits of luck, some dicey situations but some greatly humourous ones too. One salutes you guys. Again. Cheers Reg. Re: Saint Malo-Hondarribia on EV1

You'll do much better without the trailer if you can manage it. There were quite a few gates and also some lifts to access bridges that made it a real pain to travel with. If it's all you have then it can be done though. It was Joe's first big trip - we started off very slowly and only had a target ...

Not the HT550

A write-up of a trip that didn't go to plan - if you have ever wondered what it would be like to be rescued by the marine equivalent of Dr Nefario's mobility scooter then have a read. Sweary Dave and JimmyG of this parish also get a mention. https://www.weirdosonbikes.com/2021/06/25/not-the-ht550-bu...

Urgent - 11 sp Shimano derailleur needed

Hi, we are away cycling and my derailleur has suffered metal fatigue fracture and needs replaced. I'm looking for any Shimano MTB 11 or 10 sp derailleur that someone could take to the post office tomorrow (1st June) and send by next day delivery. Obviously I would pay extra for that. It needs to be ...

Looks like Martin is camping in the same woods Joe and I slept in at Contin. He would have been better up the road at the forestry MTB centre car park as there's fancy toilets there.

He is doing great. It must get disheartening being towards the back of the pack, but I couldn't do what he has done in the past day and a half. Impressive stuff :-bd
