WTD, 29er rear wheel.

I am after a rear wheel to replace the SS hope I am using, 6 gears are not enough to cover out on the hill and around town, as the gearing I need for each differs quite a bit! So I plan to put the Hope on the Roadrat as SS and get a 9spd for the Genesis. I would like a Hope hub ideally but pretty mu...

Re: Road/CX lightweight bikepackers - let's see 'em

@chrisn, same gen frame as mine, how do you find the gear hangar? Fancy one but have heard mixed reviews, I have had 1 puncture in three yrs on several bikes so maybe not as much of an issue as for some folks ;) nice looking bike.

Re: Diy Dehydrated meals

Came across this when I got my dehydrater, great starting point. Gives some idea of portioning and water amounts for rehydration etc, also some good recipes to get going.

Overnighter in the Dulnain Glen.

A bit late but been busy riding the past few weeks, sorry.... I went for a short overnighter to try the new Genesis, I wanted to make sure she was ok with a load on and I could climb 32/32 as i have it st up as a 1x6 on a Hope SS wheel. The bike was great, no problems at all with the load, handled v...

New Alpkit AirlokXtra duals. 13l and 20l. The 13 is great for summer, I managed to get my tent,mat,S/B and stove in without any squeezing. The 20l is for fatbikepacking, to accomodate my winter bag and whisperlight! http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m131/gari_01/SAM_1435_zpse47dec55.jpg the 13l unp...

Re: Road/CX lightweight bikepackers - let's see 'em

First and foremost, congrats on the divide race James, amazing effort. I just got hold of a Cotic Roadrat frame for much the same thing, not built it up yet as I am hoping to be going to Morroco for 5-6 weeks in Nov or Dec and don't want to waste cash at the moment. I have a pair of H bars awaiting ...

Re: Food for a long ride

Depending on how long you are stopping for, ie overnight, some food will "cook" without the need for heat. For example if you put a bowl of porridge, with milk added to stand overnight, it will be porridge as you recognise it in the morning, just cold. Same goes for pasta, rice etc. I was ...

Thanks guys, I am getting a Garmin and have installed Basecamp in anticipation, it has basemap on that, would that surfice? I plan to use it in conjunction with a paper map, just confirming the junction or whatever, is the one I am looking at as it were. Bikehike you say? I shall pop over there now....

Gps again, kinda

I am planning on going to Morroco this winter for a few weeks, while route planning I figured a GPS would be useful as the maps can be pretty unreliable in the more remote areas. I aim to use it mainly to identify difficult junctions and main habitations. I have 3 maps and not one of them agrees ent...

Glenmore-ryvoan pass to Forest lodge-Nethy Bridge-Boat of Garten-Kinveachy lodge and over the Wade road via Sluggan bridge-Dulnain Glen and back over the Burma road to Aviemore? Plenty of places to camp/bivvi along the Dulnain river. PM me your email and I can send a PDF of the route for you, no GPS...

Re: New Shoes

Solomon XA shoes are great for both riding and walking. I have the non gore-tex version for drainage, which they do well. They flex enough when walking but have a rigid enough sole for biking all day with good flats. Expensive but they do last well. http://www.salomon.com/uk/product/xa-pro-3d-ultra-...

Alternative to an Airlok Xtra

So I have finally given up on the 13l and 20l drybags, having been trying to get one for over a year. The cycle of "due in xxx", delays and then when you try to order they have all gone as everyone else is waiting, is becoming very frustrating, they are now delayed until July.....so bugger...

FT singular frame

Still not sold so I thought maybe someone has something to trade! Frame is a large Hummingbird, with fork. In good condition, was heli taped before being built up. i was looking for around £200 so anything around that figure for trade would be of interest. I am keen to get a Quilt this summer, light...

Re: Any POSITIVE experiences of Alfine11 hubs?

Thanks guys, I have run an 8 speed for several years and that was what I planned to put on this bike, but as I was offered a good price it would be rude not to look into it right?! The 8 speed has been nothing but reliable, I wouldn't hesitate to get another for bikepacking duties. @Cheeky Monkey, o...
