Lovely, ta. We'll plan to use the forestry tracks then - should make the going a bit easier too. I'll let you know (if we go - depends on the weather) what that bridleway is like.

A mate and I want to ride from Moel Prysgau to the Doethie Valley and was looking at various options. Are the forestry tracks in the woods to the west of the bothy, heading south towards Dolgoch then into the Tywi Forest any good? Learn to tie a tautline hitch at the peg end of the guy line and a bowline or figure 8 loop at the tarp end. Think of all the weight you can save. ;)

To be honest, I didn't find it all that beneficial. I felt like I had all the disadvantages of gears (i.e. extra weight, drag, noise etc) and none of the advantages (i.e. suitable range of gears for higher or lower speeds or steep gradients). +1 I've tried it with a WTB Single Duty hub, 4 cogs from...

The Elite ones are ok for water bottles, but I don't think I'd trust one on a fork with a kilo of stuff hanging off it. Gert big jubbly clip is what you want.
