Re: New member questions - how do you pick your camping spot

I thought the standard approach was to ride past all the good spots because it too early/windy/exposed etc etc and then finally end up in a midge infested ditch because going back would be stupid?

Only to ride past the perfect spot 100yds further on after packing up in the morning.

Yep, agreed, a pisstake. Those two will be overtaken by many of the field, especially if Ben Alder Cottage is a first night stop for one, so will be contending for the already limited resources
Didn’t realise it was closed course racing.

Ride them whenever I feel like it. Rarely challenged. If I am, standard response to ‘your not allowed to ride bikes here’ is ‘I know, silly isn’t it’.

Re: Bar roll bracket ( instead of a harness)

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/829/41956839662_0fda39225e.jpg Seem pretty solid and lifts my sweetroll up from the front wheel (which I used to buzz a lot) and away from the head tube. (Which used to buzz a lot) Salsa anything harness looks a much better solution but at 4x the price. Will test over...

never found a pair of glasses that work for me offroad.

decent front mudguard (mudhugger FR with extension) is far more effective.

Re: Training for the CTR

Finally taken the plunge and booked tickets to Denver for July. However, things have changed a bit since my last trip to the USA, 6 years ago, and apparently I now need to apply for an ETSA from US Customs, even a UK citizen from birth. That means I need a US POC - name and address - which is chall...

Re: Bar roll bracket ( instead of a harness)

I might buy some for a punt. I've never liked the way my relevate sweetroll attaches to the bars and headtube.

I guess my only concern would be whether they would rotate downwards over rough ground. I'm not using carbon bars so they can be clamped a bit harder though.

the joystick, axis and diablo all have the same size battery in. the max power goes up and the burn time comes down. if you are happy running them on low most of the time and turning them up for the faster/trickier bits I can eek a good three hour ride out of my axis. for me the low power setting is...

Re: Dartmoor 28/4

mile 15-18 ish, is not really a diversion worth taking. I'd stick on the main nuns-cross track. you can take quite a nice diversion just before mile 14, as you get to the end of the tarmac there is a track that takes you off to Ditsworthy warren and the abandoned farmhouse that was in warhorse. the ...

It's really hard to find on their site but the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has a page for river water levels http://apps.sepa.org.uk/waterlevels/ and the Tilt is one of those monitored. http://apps.sepa.org.uk/waterlevels/default.aspx?sd=t&lc=14959 Looks like there's a bit of ...

6s should be eligible for a battery replacement for £29 from Apple. Well worth it if it has already been done. 6s isn’t waterproof, 7 onwards is. I’ve found iPhones pretty robust, I don’t treat mine carefully and they’ve been fine. I get a new one from work every two years and pass the old one on to...

Re: one handed pull cord tightener

All my jackets have them.

By making the lock on captive, pulling the cord overcomes the friction it creates. When you stop pulling it stays there.
