Re: Wildlife

Mrs PB and I decided to have a Christmas Day walk up a local mountain, the 750m peak of Cabrafeixet. Just as we reached the top a pair of golden eagles took flight from a few metres away. I managed to get this shot of one of them before they got too far away.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Been wondering what to do with the pile of Ti tubes that used to be my Van Nicholas Zion frame. As a condition of replacing the frame under warranty, for the 3rd time due to cracking, I was required to cut off the headtube and send them photos. I'd thought of turning thinner rear triangle tubes into...

Re: The great British train scandal

the massive open spaces between Barcelona and Madrid do look very tempting for a future trip Mrs PB and I did a trip in that area, it's called the Monegros, in June. 300km and only passed through about 5 villages. We rode the 160km back home to claim the Restrap Solstice Century patch. West of Zara...

Nice photo! Technically yesterday but just had pics from the photographers strategically dotted around the course. The Emburgada race starts about 200m from our house with 25 and 35km options. Some bits were barely walkable but the kms of beautiful single-track more than made up for it. I beat my be...

Pretty cheery seeing as it's my 64th birthday, just back from a 2 hour recce ride around the course of the mountain bike race I'm participating in on Sunday. It starts about 200m from home and the local trail fairies have been very busy clearing miles of single track in the forest that surrounds the...

Re: The great British train scandal

you can get from one side of France to the other by train for £20 Ditto Spain, next Tuesday MrsPB and I are travelling from our local station to Cordoba 850km and a 9 hour drive away for €28 each including bikes. The only hassle is the bikes have to be in a plastic bag which will be binned when we ...

It seems to have suddenly gone chilly in the evenings although it may be different in the centre of the landmass where you are. How are you finding the riding?

So it's the Via del Plata then? If Sevilla is getting you emotional, just wait until you get to Santiago de Compostela! I've spent the day organising a trip along the Via Augusta from Cordoba to Castellon via Albacete and Valencia. We start in 2 weeks with an 8 hour train journey which cost €28 each...

Re: Custom Frame Bags

Alpkit do custom sizes, based on sending a template, not sure if they do custom dividers for a bladder or special right angle zips to permit access. There was talk of wildcat being resurrected but maybe that's for standard products. There's a few here in Spain but shipping and customs duty might mak...

Bloody Spanish health system! Had an appointment at the local hospital this morning at 8.10 arrived at 8, took my ticket and waited a whole 3 minutes to go in. Re: Are you a hoarder?

Just returned from an emotional trip back to the UK for my father's funeral. He died 4 weeks ago at the age of 94, he was pretty sporty well into his 60's and 70's. Car rallying was his love and was semi-professional in the '60's and '70's and drove in the RAC Rally a couple of times in the '90's. H...

Getting near the top of the final climb at 3,800m there's now less than 5 miles gap but time wise, I suspect the margin has remained constant. Let's see who's the best descender. They must both be wrecked.

Exciting finish to Silk Road Mountain Race

Less than 10 miles after 1,100 miles òf racing between Sofiane Sehili and Jakub Sliacan with another 100 to go including the best part of 4,000m of ascent over Kalgety pass. Sehili won in 2021 and Sliacan in 2019. Interestingly Sehili has had 9 hours stopped in the 6 days and Siliacan 20 hours but i...

The other day I got wind of a trip that one of my TdF heros Thomas de Gendt was making from his home in Belgium to Calpe in the Costa Blanca. The ISBN No is 978-84-121184-1-4 Published by Petirrojo Ediciones. Title: La Via De La Plata. The mapping is 1:75,000 and includes an accommodation guide. I'd say Stanfords will stock it online.
