Someone ought to invent a bike frame that makes use of all that wasted space inside the tubes. Think how much water you could fit inside a nice chunky alu frame
Cleaning it out might be an issue though, I suppose. Drop a Milton tablet down the seat tube once every few months and shake.

I was pondering if there is a particular reason GB tends to do well at "sitting down sports". Cycling, rowing, horse-riding, sailing... basically anything that involves extended periods of discomfort while sitting on your backside, we're world leaders

But you get a "sporting concierge". Presumably, said concierge will be on hand to personally remove any slugs before they crawl into your mouth.

Re: Matt goes to King Alfreds Way
The section between Reading and the Devil's Punch Bowl is pretty well my back yard and it is certainly popular with bikes although most of the mountain bikers prefer the (whisper it) off piste stuff rather than official trails. From reading the KAW Facebook group I think the main flare-up point roun...

Re: Matt goes to King Alfreds Way
Where did you encounter the woman putting sticks on the path? Happens a lot round here sadly. I'm intrigued now. What's going on? Some sort of New Age statement? Or a secret message for someone (*)? Well they're usually a bit bigger than sticks. Dragged onto trails in the woods by dog walkers who h...

Re: Matt goes to King Alfreds Way
It is a nice route though, places I did not expect to enjoy, like around Reading. I don't know the names of lots of it, but the Ridgeway is nice and that is the only section I have ridden before. The bit of the SDW used is a bit... meh. Butser is a killer climb mind. I think that would be my only c...

Wales actually is dry, dusty and feels like the Vosges more than the UK. Currently trying to ride my bike to Snowdon again, from home. Set off on Sat. Melting a bit more each day. I can't cope with hills in the heat but I have learned how good a mid day nap and taking it easy can be. Bumped into Ti...

It's not really proper space though, is it?
Although props to Bezos for his shamelessly puerile rocket design, which can't help but bring to mind that scene from Austin Powers.

Normally I don't mind the heat but I am struggling with working from home, as my "office" (aka bedroom) faces west and gets the full blast of afternoon sunshine. My laptop is pumping out more heat and I still have work to do but I think I will sack it off and finish it later tonight once i...

Re: Active travel carriage on WH railway line.
Could do with some of these on the Exeter to Barnstaple line. I went down there to see my parents the a couple of weeks ago, arrived in Exeter to find that the next train to Barnstaple had been cancelled (one an hour). By the time the one after that arrived there must have been at least 10 people wi...

Re: Thoughts on waist bags
I've noticed around our (rural and couple of years behind London/Paris/Milan etc.) area that the yoof are wearing waist bags diagonally from the shoulder across their chest so it would appear that they are very much on-trend at the moment  There was a trend for diagonal rucksacks with only on...

Re: Better 20mm buckles for lomo seatpack
I’m pretty sure I am connecting the right buckles as there are only two on each side, one for the saddle rail strap and one for the closure strap. Maybe I’m just not stuffing it enough. One other thing that occurred to me is maybe I had the seatpost straps too high up. My seatpack seemed a bit more ...

Re: Better 20mm buckles for lomo seatpack
Hi Tom, I can’t help with your question but wanted to ask something of a fellow Lomo seat pack owner. I like the pack but wonder if I am doing something wrong with the straps that attach to the saddle rails as they don’t seem to tighten up enough to stop swaying, even if you cinch them down as far a...

I just had a look at this route. I did a tiny bit of the top left hand corner last week (over to Lee Bay and out the other side, and a bit between Ilfracombe and Berrynarbor on a separate occasion). The casual description "Turn inland past Lee to cut the corner of the headland here and rejoin t...

First fully independent ride for my daughter on her pedal bike (She's 4). Never used stabilisers, always balance bike. To say I am chuffed is an understatement. Now to point her at some sick jumps! Managed to get enough mojo together to go for my first MTB ride in a month. Was good. Easy on the ups...

This bridleway followed a stream bed for a hundred yards or so I always extract huge pleasure from riding up/down stream-bound RoW. That looked a nice one. In the same vein as https://www.wetroads.co.uk/ I think we need a wetbridleways.co.uk site  Good, aren't they. The Devon one above is at...

Re: Todays ride
Came to visit my parents in north Devon for the week (when you can work from home it doesn't matter whose home!) and got the train down on Saturday. To save them having to come and pick me up it seemed the obvious choice to ride over from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe. I'd done the Tarka Trail route befo...

I have an early 90s GT in the garage that geometry-wise appears almost identical to these new-fangled "flat-bar hybrids". I used it as a commuter until recently but I think it would make a great XC/tourer with a few modifications. Unfortunately the shifters (original XT Rapidfire Plus) hav...

Re: Hello and mat questions
The MW mat has been better than my old Alpkit Numo so far. It's this one: https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/compact-inflating-mat-p23951.aspx/ I spent £25 on it. I got a catalogue from them with an extra 20% off code (COAST for anyone who wants to use it, valid until end of July) so got one of thos...
