How do you know they're cold?
There's no indication in the photo I've seen that they are cold.

. You can't see it from the track which is uphill of what that shot is looking at plus it's a pretty fast bit of track so unless you had an idea of where it was you'd probably zip past any path leading to it without noticing it. Well I saw it from the track in 2018. Went down for a look at it, deci...

I'll get the rest of them scanned and put up on flickr sometime soon hopefully and will stick a link on here. The observant may have noticed that one of my rear panniers ended up being carried hung on my handlebars. This was because my rear rack broke down near the bottom of one leg and my emergency...

Re: Iceland from the East to the West?

I cycled across Iceland (south to north, Sprengisandur route) in August 1991, then took a bus from Myvatn to Hofn and cycled from there back to Keflavik, all done in a two week holiday from work.
Fantastic trip, great country, always meant to go back but not made it yet.

Same here.
Haven't slept using a pillow for the past 40 years, either at home or camping.

Cool Tool.
Been using mine for nearly 30 years and it still comes in handy on a regular basis.
An updated version would be a great idea.

Re: Re-proofing Goretex

You can't 're-proof' Goretex, the 'waterproofness' is in the ptfe membrane.
All you can do is keep it clean and keep applying DWR treatment to improve beading, but it rarely lasts more than a couple of rainy days before it needs done again.

Decathlon. Think they're in the Forclaz range. Available with whimsy travel adventure slogans too but they're subtle. Really good for the money - used one for a week straight in S France with just a few rinses in rivers or fountains. Edit - it's the one Woodsmith linked to :-bd A few rinses in a we...

Fitted a Rohloff to my Surly ECR from new and have about 8000 miles on it with zero problems. Just did 2500 miles around Scotland and all I did was adjust the chain twice.. You shouldn't need to adjust your chain twice in 2500 miles, probably shouldn't need to adjust it at all in that distance. You...

To me, one of the advantages of bikepacking gear is that is kept well clear of the wheels and the potential to snag on vegetation on rough narrow tracks, so putting stuff on the fork legs seems to be a bad idea (might as well use panniers).

Spinnaker repair tape?
Not used it on tents but works well on clothes like pertex, etc, and air mats with a layer of seamgrip smeared over it to seal it.

Not a bar end shifter per se, but you can fit the standard Rohloff twist shifter to a bar end using a Hubbub adapter or a similar homemade adapter. https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-spares/hubbub-drop-bar-adaptor-mount-for-twistgrip-73-mm/ I've had the Hubbub adapter on my touring bike with Rohloff f...
