My experience of bikes on trains is generally pretty relaxed in Italy, you'll need to pay an extra fare.
You'll have a great time Abruzzo looks a great area, and the Montanus guys have done a very good write up!

hey Andy!
Yep Stanton Sherpa could be a good shout.
Pace stuff looked pretty spendy when I looked.
Got to admit I'm leaning toward the Solaris Max at the minute

Yes Sean - I stand correct Timberjack is Alu and I mean't 148 spacing (thats ideal rather than a deal breaker)
I'll take a look at the Pipedream - not even considered that.

650B+ Steel Hardtail - thoughts?
Hi all Aren't rainy days great at convincing yourself you need a new bike ;-) I've been riding a Singular Rooster for the last few years and been really happy with it as a speculative purchase, unfortunately, my wrists and hands are becoming increasingly whingy on long multi-day trips and with plans...

Re: Seat pack for limited rear tyre clearance
PR is only available direct from Canada. Email Scott and he'll be able to get something over to you, I've ordered a lot of gear from him over the years, top guy and the best quality bikepacking gear you'll buy in my opinion. Only thing to factor in is customs duty, I've been fairly lucky over the ye...

Re: Seat pack for limited rear tyre clearance
We've had similar issues with my girlfriends set up - 5ft 1 (just) and rides an XS frame running 27.5 x 2.6 tyres leaves very minimal tyre clearance between the seat pack. Generally we've found an Apidura seat pack like Sean's to work well, it does have to be cinched high and tight, works well on al...

Re: IDEAS PLEASE - 5 day route, somewhere warm, September time
Provence or Maritime Alps would definitely fit the bill. I rode the Grande Traversee Haute Provence year before last which is doable with a week to play with - logistics to the start took a bit of figuring out. Have been thinking about heading back out to ride the Trans Verdon trail in the Autumn, o...

Re: Mechanical Hydraulic Brakes...
Having ran several sets of BB7s and Spyres, I ended up plumping for a set of HY/RDs when I built my Tripster up a couple of years ago rather than going the full hydraulic route. First year of riding they were great although have a certain sponginess to them which takes a bit of getting used to. Whil...

Re: Moel Famau?
MTBR did the Clwydian Killer Loop back in the day - I've ridden this and variations on it over the last couple of years.
Doesn't take in the summit of Moel Famau but skirts it, as others have said it gets pretty full on at weekends.

Re: Pyrenees / Raid Pyrenean?
Hey James
No worries at all - the Raid isn't going anywhere especially with a measly 4 weeks worth of holiday ;-)
I'd love to see the previous years route you mentioned, I'm half considering riding down to Sardinia ahead of a holiday with the rest of the family next summer.
Cheers
Mike

Re: Travel thinking
There is a lot to be said for noodling about on a bike without a specific or fixed agenda. Before going travelling, I raced a lot but after travelling without a time limit for over 2 years it kind of knocks any sort of competitiveness out of you. I've trained and peaked for a few road based events o...

Re: Do I 'need' a fat bike?
Hey Rich! Consider a fat bike an ATB, it'll go everywhere and do pretty much everything, I should know I certainly put the Pugsley through its paces :-bd If you're going to go down that route, I'd pay serious attention to the overall weight of the build and particularly tyre choice in terms of perfo...

WTD: Xtracycle Leap Kit
Hi all
Looking to repurpose one of my bikes into a cargo bike if at all possible.
Bit of a long shot but wondering whether anyone has a Xtracycle Leap Kit gathering dust in the man cave?
Failing that a second hand Big Dummy or Ute could be of interest.
Cheers

Hey all Looking to move on some Alpkit Bomber Bars: https://www.alpkit.com/products/love-mud-bomber Good condition ran them on my Kinesis AT last year for commuting duties and light gravel duties whilst I liked the flare on them I found the drops a bit too shallow for my own tastes. £20 posted BAAAA...

Re: Pyrenees / Raid Pyrenean?
I rode the Raid around 10 years so memory is a little hazy, flew into Biarritz and out of Carcasonne as I stayed with some friends of the family on the way back. Its a good ride obviously very road based, although the Pyrennees are a good bit quieter than the Alps, most of the riders you will encoun...

There will definitely be some great riding on this.
The Punta Olympica loop is an absolute gem, maybe best savoured rather than raced through though.
Most likely fuelled by Inca Cola

Another thumbs up for the Evernew stuff.
I've had the 0.9l for years and its still going strong despite melting the rubberised handles some time ago.
We've just bought the 1.3l pan for extended trips away, bought on Amazon Japan for a great price and arrived within a week

Hi I've got a set of Kinesis Crosslight V4 wheels (2017) gathering dust in the garage. Still in good condition with limited miles on them. 11 Speed Shimano/SRAM Freehub Tubeless taped and valve stems included. I can include 9mm quick release or 12mm thru axles. Drop me a PM if you'd like pics etc. C...

Re: Round the world cycle
In my own experience its very rare that other alternatives don't exist to bad stretches of highway, I say that because the large majority of my own trips have been spent pouring over satellite imagery and gathering local information to try and circumvent riding busy roads where possible. That's not ...

Its highly dependent on the countries that you are going to be travelling in and the sort of level of comfort you happy travelling in. Another factor to consider is how much time you spend in cities as you can easily burn through a lot of cash there, or at least I can... Replacement bike part...

If you'd have asked me a few years ago, I'd have agreed that multi fuel is the best stove type but I'm not sure I'd agree anymore. Sure petrol is ubiquitous, but so is alcohol it just takes a bit of finding - its normally in pharmacies, supermarkets or general stores once you know the name in the lo...
