Re: Dirty Reiver: 200k UK Gravel event

Yeah, I understand that Stu. I'm not saying that the price is unreasonable for what is on offer. I wasn't expecting it to be a sportive. No, I'm with you Dan. I too expected more of a self-supported / bikepacking / ITT type vibe. I was a little surprised by the level of outside assistance given tha...

Re: Dirty Reiver: 200k UK Gravel event

I think the entry price is pretty much in-line with the majority of sportives, which given the mechanical back-up, feed stations, signage, etc is pretty much what it is. Prices for events that have a proven format will generally be dictated by what the market are willing / already paying. I don't th...

Re: Anybody got or used a borax bivi

Duncan, just remember that many of the bags listed aren't waterproof so additional shelter will be required ... saying that, a night in the rain in a waterproof bag's not much of a laugh either.

You mention the Kestrel - very good bag but not big enough to accommodate a mat inside.

Re: Help me choose a sleeping mat

Any suggestions? I see the Synmat mats get good reviews but they seem a lot heavier than the Thermarest equivalents....
I'd suggest a Synmat UL. I'd also suggest comparing the actual physical sizes when you compare weights ... apples and apples, not apples and pears

Re: Has anyone used gorilla cages on their longitude forks?

Stuart, we will contact Genesis, and hope for the best. I was hoping you might have a cunning plan to strap on the cages. If I remember rightly, there was something in the pipeline somewhere about a thingamyjig that would fit gorilla cages to fork without bosses. With you, there is a cunning thing ...

Re: Has anyone used gorilla cages on their longitude forks?

Any advice? I'd have said it's a manufacturing / QC issue, so warranty replacement. The 2016 Longitude actually comes with Gorilla cages, so you'd expect them to fit. If it were me, I'd pen a nice polite email to Genesis explaing your forthcoming Cuba trip and ask for some new ones. Stuart, can you...

It can only really be 'dodgy' forks ... bosses attached in different places, one correct, one not so much.

Stu that is EXACTLY IT. I've got a very similar same BB pole BTW - cant remember when you made it but about a year ago I reckon.
Are you sure? I recall this one was massive and made as a special.

I've a pic somewhere that someone sent me. I made him a pole so he could use a Silwing as a porch on the front of his tent, looked very neat. I'll try and find it.

Yes.

Don't go mad, much better with a very thin layer 'pushed' into the thread holes than trying to smother the lot ... a thick layer can start to lift after a while.

Re: Trans Cambrian - Dec 18-20 - 2015

I'm struggling to think of a time it's rained so much for so long. Since Nov 5th, it's rained every day bar one. Sometimes, just drizzle (usually backed up by high winds) and other times a proper continual downpour for hours on end (usually backed up by high winds). :-bd
