Re: Why On Earth Can't I Eject My GPS 64 From Mac?

Had an instance of this earlier this evening; wouldn’t eject disc as it was “in use”. All apps were closed, but I opened up Activity Monitor and found Preview was running in the background. Quit that process, and bingo - disc ejected.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Some long overdue love for the commuter; new cranks and BB, WI Freewheel strip down and regrease, new brake shoes, repair damaged wire on the dynamo. Reassembled the fat bike after Rovaniemi. Singlespeed next (new brakes to fit), then build up the other fat bike. Because one fat bike isn’t enough :w...

Re: Why On Earth Can't I Eject My GPS 64 From Mac?

When I connect my garmin, my Mac sees two drives; GPS and SD card, which is usually called “no name”. I eject both before disconnecting the device.

I have corrupted a card before now not ejecting properly. It doesn’t exactly take long to do.

Re: The commoditisation of..... bikepacking... discuss

Bikepacking may only be another revenue stream for some corporate knober, but really what did we expect? There’s money to be made and who can blame them for taking advantage of a ready market?
As illustrated by 317 pages on the postman’s been thread (vs 118 pages of bargain alerts)

Aye, reading to kids is good fun when you can do a variety of accents. David Walliams books are particularly well written in that respect, as I find myself able to drop into a different regional accent for each character quite easily.

How Did We Get Into This Mess? by George Monbiot. Shocking, thought provoking and depressing in equal measure. Bruce Dickinson’s autobiography Got that here, look fwd to starting it. Good? Sorry but I hated it. It's not the best biography I've ever read, for sure. I've nearly finished it, and would say the first half is better than the second. I thought the account of his childhood was interesting, and funn...

Pity it means giving money to Planet X.. Is Shady Dave still involved in the company? I might be willing to reconsider my boycott if I know he is no longer likely to benefit. There’s a David Loughran listed as Chief Exec on companies house: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/06535324...

Now you know how most of us felt (on the HAB section of BB200/300) when we saw your fat tyre tracks where we were walking.
And you’d think I’d have been the fastest on that section, but that accolade goes to Sam Walsh. So it wasn’t entirely about tyres

Thanks for linking that article, Bob. This... What this means is that even when you manage to float atop it, your tires can't really get good traction because the snow isn't sticking to itself. There's nothing for the tires to hook into, because the snow just moves out of the way. Think critically a...

ITI next? Don't know. Maybe, but not immediately. You're right, Bob, about the level of concentration required. I'd forgotten that detail for the purposes of the write up, but when you said it, it came back to me. After my spill over the bars (in the video), it's implied by my "no margin for er...

Rovaniemi 300 Write Up & Video

Finally wrapped some words around my completion of the Rovaniemi 300. I figured the words were better coming before the video, as they tell the most complete story.

The video will be along later this week, so stay tuned. In the meantime, enjoy :-bd

Re: The story behind your BB name (and whats your usual form of address)

I lacked the imagination to use anything other than my real name. It was my Mum’s choice originally, and I think she thought it wouldn’t get shortened, but it did. At school, and latterly in Wales (but nowhere else, strangely), people would call me “E”. Great thread though; two revelations for me: 1...

Believe it or not, I’ve never completed this. However, after very sporadic Bivvy activities the past few years, I’ve ticked Jan and Feb so far; Jan: some birch woodland in Glen Avon, just south of Tomintoul Feb: 2x laavu’s on the Rovaniemi 300. As is typical for me, no photos as I typically arrive w...

Nice one Ian and looking forward to the video I’ve taken some cues from your film making, but without the swearing as my two young kids will want to watch it. Also, came into town for some food. Chuff me, that was hard!

Headlines; 2 days 6 hours 7 mins. 3rd place. More than half the field DNF’d due to the conditions.

Longer version: you’ll have to wait a bit, but I kept a video diary so you can see first hand the gradual deterioration of self as the race evolves.
