Re: 9AM Route inspiration.
Hi all. I'm still setting off on the Tues 10 April to do this ride. I will be bivvying that evening at Garadhban forest just north of Drymen about 20 miles along the West Highland Way if anyone would like to join me. Apparently there is an official wildcamp site (?) that is easily found at the NW en...

Re: Tarp or tent?
There is nothing else quite like this trailer. You can say that again  That fact that someone sat down to design it in the first place is beyond belief, never mind actually making one and thinking, "I reckon these'd sell at $900 a pop..." Not only that but they will also have persu...

4 hours time bonus for each caravan camping club site that throws you off the site after they discover you have been using their washing machine facilities!

Re: Tarp or tent?
You could easily sleep two in there so the race format is this:
Teams of two, on a tandem, towing a "midget bushtrekker", long distance, off road, point to point staying at registered caravan and camping club sites.
Any other rules that people think should apply?

Could make for an interesting competition though, everyone hauling one of those long distance off road.

Re: MYOG map board / front dry bag rack
Hi, I like the concept and the execution is excellent but I am positive that vibration and the leverage effect of weight ahead of the mounting point will slacken off that one bolt holding it in place quite quickly. Do you really need a map holder? If it were me i'd loose the map holder and just keep...

I have an alpkit hunka and I realize that the groundsheet should not extend beyond the tarp, just how small can I get away with, hence the question on size.

Vision over the top bag to the wheel is fine. I carry water in a bladder in my backpack, the bottle on the frame has meths in it. I only converted to flats at the end of last year and I find them fine, like you I also suffer knee problems. Next week cannot come soon enough, been too long since my la...

Loaded bike, first trial ride today.
After trying several different set ups in the house this is the one I have finally settled for and I went for a 3 hour ride in the Pentland Hills today to try it out. After having used rear panniers and less than lightweight gear previousley this turned out to be a bit of a revelation. My gear is st...

3 Newbie Questions.
1) How big does my groundsheet need to be when used in conjunction with a bivi bag and tarp?
2) Will my new alpkit drybags be 100% waterproof?
3) How do you clean a dry bag so it doesn't loose it's proofing?
Thanks.

Carrying fuelled up meths burner in cooking pot?
Just wondering how many people do this. Many years ago (25+) I was touring Europe and carried my burner, with fuel in, in the cooking pot. Then one day I unpacked it to find the burner had leaked due to me not tightening it up properly or vibration had loosened it or a bit of both. Being on a very,v...

Re: It's a love/hate thing. (Quality item Mk II)
Thanks guys. Working with flat metal from a tin tray was so much easier than the octagonal shape of the chocolate tin and having my tools back helped a lot. As the frame bag had to be hand sewn I went for the most basic design possible, ie, two bits of fabric the same shape sewn round the edges then...

Hi drunkenmonkey, you say "we" and "I" so i'm assuming there was more than one of you out but only you got ill. If you all used the same water source then i'm wondering if this was actually the cause of your illness. Sorry to hear it spoiled your trip. "The other thing that ...

"how much Dot 5.1 do you carry "
Have only tried bleeding motorcycle brakes without much success, evetually paid a mechanic. If all goes wrong I can put the back brake on the front. Might just bodge something to protect the hose where it exits the brake.

Looks as though the wife and I will be on holiday first 2 weeks in July but this is not definate yet. How about sometime in the third week of June? Do you prefer week end or week days to go? I prefer weekdays myself but a week end is no major issue.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Have gone for cous cous/tuna, tomatoe pasta/tuna, oatso porridge and will probably buy mountain house all day breakfast, I think it's their brand i've seen. Coffee for the morning and hot choc n whiskey in the evening. Roll on the tenth, end of last Oct was my last tour. G...
