Re: Off topic - loading a kayak on a car
I think the best solution would be to fix your back, is there any yoga/strength training you could do? Hi Rob, Currently in the middle of a course of physio but will look at strength training as you say. To be honest only just got back on a bike and still not "allowed" to bivvy in my gard...

Re: Off topic - loading a kayak on a car
Cheers Jurassic, plenty to think about there. I'll have a good look around.
Like I said the issue is more about my back than anything else.

Re: Off topic - loading a kayak on a car
Yeah, I'm loading/unloading on my own and it's quite heavy but my main issue is I don't want to knacker my back which will stop me riding. You may be fine yourself. Obviously when I'm at the riverside I'll be with someone who can help out but the main issue is loading and unloading at home. I've see...

Off topic - loading a kayak on a car
Bit off-topic this one... for any kayak owners out there. A combination of a dodgy back and a 27kg kayak and I'm struggling to lift it onto the roof of the car. I can't really afford the fancy Thule Hullavator but have seen the Rhino-Rack Universal Side Loader. Does anyone have any thoughts on somet...

I couldn't see anything about "local" or not for exercise?

Re: Taking a knife to a gunfight.
My go-to bikepacking bike is my Longitude and I always thought my next bike would be a gravel bike.
Although fearing the next few months all I'll be able to do is ride the gloopy local trails I've just bought a rigid SS out of the classifieds as my lockdown bike.

Re: Viewranger discontinued, replaced with Outdoor Active
I started to "trial" the new app on a few local walks, it's a bit clunky crashing once and not recording on another walk.
Not too impressed myself, luckily I only pay the annual subscription so will wait and see before I cancel.

Re: January's Virtual Winter Event 2021 (Covid lockdown edition) Jan 9th and 10th
Due to a nasty bout of sciatica I'm currently off the bike for a few weeks. Requesting a medical note off Dr Reg and Dr John please. Hopefully complete mine as soon as I can spend a night on a cold mat in the garden without waking up the neighbours by shrieking in pain every time I try to move.

Re: What are your feelings about next year?
I've already written off Spring and Summer. I'm just hopeful that I might be able to do some sort of WRT type event in say September next year.
First priority for me is to be able to get back into Wales for either rides or bivvy'ing.

Festive greetings all
Picked up one myself a couple of months ago, amazed at how lightweight it is, think it will be my number one choice ahead of the Lunar Solo next year.Dave Barter wrote: ↑Fri Dec 25, 2020 4:21 pm Greetings from Devon. Santa brought me a Big Agnes so now very excited about 2021

Re: A Q for the hammock users.
For me it's this... I have a few "hammock sites" near me so I'll know specifically where I'm going. If that's the case I'll chuck my panniers on the the bike so the extra capacity isn't an issue. I love sleeping in my hammock, far comfier than any ground sleep plus it doubles up as a great...

Re: Time to get revenge on Stuart
Stuart you must have upset a lot of riders over the years. Of the GR's that I've got in already, which Reg and I are having a right laugh at plotting them on an over view map.... Only Sean (tobasco) should be kept on your Christmas Card list this year. The rest I think hate you    Ge...

Re: A question - everyone can play.
I see no problem with it, depending on the site.... smallish farmers field with toilet, tap and the option of buying eggs from the farmer. To be honest I've had a post WRT "wobble" and have looked and planned routes around a few quiet sites. All this landowners permission malarkey and the ...

tent recommendations
I’m after a small tent for the winter that will offer a bit more protection than my Lunar Solo and my hammock. Want it to be as packable as possible but with only a budget of ~£200-£250 I know I can’t afford anything like a Big Agnes. So far the MSR Elixir looks okay, any thoughts/recommendations pl...

Alpkit Kraku and gas canister issues
I took my new Alpkit Kraku out for its first trip last night. Not sure if I had the flame on too high but once it had cooled and I took it off the canister (a brand new JetBoil canister) something appeared to snap and the gas didn't seal, it all escaped leaving me with an empty canister. There doesn...
