Re: Byway Replacement

I have had good experiences with the Vittoria Terreno Dry tyres and the Panaracer Gravelkings - though not in the large volume slicks which puncture continuously, even on the road. The tubeless Semi Slick one they do is excellent and comes in 27.5*1.9 variety

Re: Durston x-mid tent?

First night out in it yesterday. Not quite bikepacking as I took my little motorbike to the beach. https://i.postimg.cc/gkKFYyL1/PXL-20230611-191327432.jpg Very quick and easy to set up and get a good tight pitch (something I'm not always good at). Space inside is perfect, not claustrophobic, good p...

SOLD: Terra Nova / Wild Country Zephyros 2 XL Lite Tent

So, what we've got here is an EXTRA LARGE 2 man tent made with lighter fabrics so that you get more space but it doesn't weigh no more! Good tent, I lived out of it for three weeks on a trip. Absolutely palatial if you're on your own and actually pretty decent for a pair. 2 doors, a single pole thro...

Re: PlanetX going bust?

It's a shame, had so much kit off them in the past - really good for cheap basics.
In fact my camping bike is a Titus Fireline titanium one of theirs, it's a great bike.

Re: Durston x-mid tent?

Yeah, quite expensive - have to sell a couple of my other tents soon.

However, they seem to hold their value well so can get a fair bit of the cash back if necessary.

And, sometimes when you're out for a while the £££s are forgotten about if all the kit is working well

I've got one a terra nova zephyros 2 xl lite I was going to sell if that's of interest? Very spacious and about 1.4kg if I remember correctly.

I can dig it out and take some pictures later on

Re: Durston x-mid tent?

It was $454 including shipping and customs. That was with two of their poles that go with it. So, about £365.

Re: Durston x-mid tent?

Got a chance to do a test pitch last night. Very easy to get a good pitch. The Durston poles have a slider on them to adjust the final length which is nice. Only needs 4 pegs. I like the two poles thing, gives you lots of headroom. Easy to get in and out of the tent as well. The sleeping area inside...

SOLD: Magura MT Trail Sport Disk Brake Set

BRAKES I was buying a set of Magura MT5 brakes from one of the German sites and had to buy something else to reach a minimum order cost, so bought these as well. They are a 4 pot front and a 2 pot rear. I think it is an MT5 front and an MT8 rear? Info on them here: https://www.magura.com/en/EUR/mag...

It arrived this morning. That was pretty quick, just under a week.
Been a busy boy today, but will test pitch tomorrow. Also got two of their carbon poles for it.

Re: 3 questions please? Trail spd pedals/Brand X play & servicing/uphil trail optimal tyre width?

1. Dropper - that is a good life for a dropper might just be time to bite the bullet as they are £50 new for a 100 mmm dropper from crc 2. Wider tyres are more draggy [ though it may just be the lack of mud] so I use wider in winter narrower in summer - that is a s scientific asI get personally. 3....

Re: 3 questions please? Trail spd pedals/Brand X play & servicing/uphil trail optimal tyre width?

2. When going uphill on a trail with some loose rocks but generally hardpacked. Not having to worry about anything other than that one trail - going up and down it continuously, like you do! Is a thicker (2.8 or 3.0) more appropriate for the back as the wider footprint means less drag and more trac...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Further adventures with the camping bike. Changed the old Shimano Deore brakes for some Magura MT5s that I also put on my trail bike and was very impressed with. And changed the front tyre from a Vittoria Terreno Dry to a Vittoria Peyote I had hanging in the the garage. Which is a lightly treaded XC...

Quite like the Endura gravel ones I got.
Not too flappy, very light material (so quick drying).
Nice to wear for hill walking or just as "shorts"

Durston x-mid tent?

Have moved to using a trekking pole tent, this one: https://www.rivercountryproducts.com/product/one-person-backpacking-tent/ Two things I don't like about it: The pole in the middle makes getting in and out a pain The low height at each end means my face is close to the tent and the foot of my slee...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

Dismantling and putting the drivetrain back together last night. Noticed that the chain wasn't running over the top jockey wheel in low gears again.
Turns out I had threaded the chain over the wrong side of a metal plate inbetween the two jockey wheels.
Runs a lot nicer now I've sorted that out!
