Re: WRT - Last minute appeal

I'd just be worried you wouldn't be able to keep up as previously when I've been out with Ian & Stu they've kind of held me back a bit. Sorry about that, I'd blame it on 'having an off day' but you can't have those every ride. If anyone is thinking of riding (taking a real beasting) with Matt a...

Re: WRT - Last minute appeal

Mark you'll easily find someone to ride with at the start. At present either Matt or Markendro would seem like a good bet. Don't bail ... you'll be kicking yourself all year if you do afterall it looks like it could be the first dry WRT in 4 years ;)

Re: Wind top - what's good?

I've got a Paramo and it's very good but it is fairly heavy and a little bulky when packed ... tend to use it as a winter riding top.

Re: Wind top - what's good?

I have looked at the Sonic. I do like OMM kit but I can get either RAB for quite a few quid less. I reckon the Sonic would compare well to the Cirrus although the Sonic's stated weight is lower. Something else I've spotted is the Montane Trail Star. It doesn't really do it for me as it's a jacket (a...

Highland Trail Race - Good Luck

Just wanting to wish all those taking part in the HT400 good luck. Having ridden part of the route I hope the weather gods are kind to you and the rivers shallow ;)

Wind top - what's good?

I'm on the look out for a new windproof top. Ideally it wants to be light, pack small and obviously be windproof, any dwr would be a bonus as would a smock style rather than a jacket. At present the following two are in contention: Rab Boreas Pull-On - Cheap(ish), looks quite warm, has a hood but no...

Put SY19 7BH in ... it might not do you a great deal of good though as it covers an area of about 5 miles ;)

OS mark every pub on the maps. Most areas of population will have a pub ... whether it'll be open is a different matter ;)

Re: Tarp and Bivi? owww and a food mention

Well, so far the forecast shows it dry for Sat and Sun night so you might be in luck BUT there's no way I'd trust the fickle Welsh weather if I wasn't at least carrying a bivvy bag. My own preference would be a tarp rather than a bivvy bag if I were to just carry the one item. If you haven't got a t...

Re: Tarp and Bivi? owww and a food mention

Do I need to take a tarp and Bivi out with me this weekend for the WRT? Not if you're staying in a B&B or taking a tent ;) In all honesty ... where are you thinking of kipping? Are you hoping to sleep outside and take a gamble on good weather? Wondering if you could find a bus stop or some othe...

Cheers Stuart, I'll take you up on that . Big bag full of performance boosting substances with your name on Ray. Ask Dee for it when you sign on. I'm taking some energy gels on the WRT but I also make my own energy bars. Flapjack style bars with oats, nuts, honey, peanut butter etc. If anyone is in...

Sorry ... just checked and they do a TOPO card but not an IGN card. Saying that it should still do the job if you're following a track.

Got a msr stowaway seagull pot
Is that stainless? Aluminium will boil faster ;)
(is this some that could be done after completed build??)
At the moment, no. However I am having a play with a valve that enters the stove at the base, if it works then a retrofit should be possible.

Re: Eventually, 100g cookset.

Thanks Stu, I did build one once but it burned really hot so I couldn't simmer on it (this was before using insulated pour n store method) and it just drank the meths like an alki on whizz. I think I made it too small but i'll give it another go. It'll burn cooler if: There's more jets and/or bigge...

AlpKit will be sponsoring a WRT Treasure Hunt ... here's what you have to do if you want to join in. • Somewhere within grid square SN7391 a locked goodie box will be hidden. You can aquire the combination to unlock it from the AlpKit bike when you sign on at the start of the WRT. • The box will con...
