Re: Surly LHT 26, where to buy in europe?
I don't think I'd let the V brake v disc debate be the deciding factor. Some decent cable discs shouldn't cause you anymore trouble than V's and you'll also have better brakes which is quite useful on a heavily laden bike  Yep. Cable BB7’s and as big a rotor as you can fit are just the ticket...

Re: Merino 'down' jackets???
Ethical/green/eco (call it what you will) choices are always multi-factorial. Jameso I absolutely agree. I’m not advocating for the product just answering the op. As I see it the best sustainability choice is not buying what you don’t need. This is why, as you and many other people are, I’m using a...

Re: Merino 'down' jackets???
FWIW I found some information on Lavalan wool insulation used in some brands wool ‘down’ products. Not all wool insulation will be the same. Looks to be pretty sustainable/ethical. Uses European wool, traceable to source. The insulation is created using heat bonding to create thousands of bonds betw...

Re: Merino 'down' jackets???
What does merino down do that primaloft type fill doesn't? That's a very good question, especially with the good recycled synthetics available now ... obviously removing any eco / green notions. Recycling synthetics doesn’t entirely remove any eco/green notions. Micro plastics released during washi...

Square taper BB on both my main bikes.
Royce BB’s with Middleburn 5 arm ATB pattern spiders. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
It’s a world more reliable than the Campag Powertorque setup on my road bike which needs a new BB every year and £130 of tools to change it.

Twice both before kids and marriage (go figure!) First was a full custom Thorn eXXp touring bike with S&S couplings, Rohloff, Royce BB and the full works top of the range heavy ass touring gear. Incredible machine for it’s intended purpose that crossed multiple continents with barely a tweek. Se...

Re: Thule Panniers
Fitted the rack and sides to my wife’s bike. Used with Ortleib panniers.
Works fine, like a standard rack. We did a number of 2 week road/ easy track touring rides. It’s still on her bike 8 years later and in fine fettle.

Re: ever wish you were strong enough to ride single speed ?
Sounds like a dream combo to me.
My Rohloff was bought for such a trip and I’ve never looked back.
Must admit to considering a switch to SS for a while to see what the fuss is about.
Any recommendations for a QR SS hub that isn’t too spendy?

Re: ever wish you were strong enough to ride single speed ?
100s of £ worth of drivetrain parts being run for hours in a wet, gritty environment always seemed daft. As I get older I'm getting more concerned that my idea of a perfect IGH for MTB* won't be ready in time for when I need it : ) *the answer's not a Rohloff for me. Out of interest, why’s that? I’...

Re: Is next year a write off already?
All the planning at my NHS trust was about this happening. I’ve sat through so many tedious ‘surge capacity’ meetings I wanted to scratch my eyes out. All the way back in May we were getting ready for a second wave starting as early September or as late as November. Where as the first wave had a sha...

Re: Schwalbe Aerothan (are they just Tubolito reinvented?)
What’s wrong with the Tubolito? I’m asking as I always carry one as a get out of jail spare. I’ve not used it yet but now I’m worried. Some users have had the tubes go down quickly when used as spares. I think on the whole they were the variety with detachable valves. FWIW I used a 29+ Tubolito as ...

Again I'd say you're overstating the size of the challenges of what's required to return to a relative normality. Happy to disagree though.

2) no guarantee right strain/will work ‘Will work’ is the pertinent point there. The quicker the vaccine is introduced the less testing will have taken place so there will be less guarantee of efficacy. One vaccine is unlikely to work for all people. For example flu vaccine is offered in variations ...

Re: Is next year a write off already?
I can get the flu vaccine at work but I dont always do it why 1) unlikely to kill me 2) no guarantee its the correct strain /will work Now i dont want to generalise from a sample size of one but i see no reason to assume people will treat them the same. Could easily say the same for COVID vaccine. ...

Re: Is next year a write off already?
You're overstating the risk of anti-vax nutjobs. They are a negligible number. Negligible number, loud voice. Example: primary school in Exeter is not providing flu vac this year due to small but vociferous parent group complaining. You are assuming NHS staff will be willing to take a vaccine. As p...

Re: Is next year a write off already?
Thanks for the telling off chaps. No working vaccine AVAILABLE then. And when it is available it needs to be given to people, here in lies the problem, that will take a LONG time. And InReverse it will need a lot of people to have had it for it to work - upwards to 80% of the population. There are e...

Re: Is next year a write off already?
The rumour is that they're expecting to start rolling out a vaccine to NHS frontline workers around Christmas time. That info was almost certainly deliberately leaked by the government so no clue how true it is but it will be months before it'll be generally available. There was also a rumour that ...

Sean’s comment sums the whole thing up though.
A picture like that can be damaging if folk act upon it.
Shame, I’d have loved to have gone to IoW to ride that if it were legal. There is so little of the coast you can actually ride.

Going to be controversial, as I will suggest my bikepacking jacket that I use. Softer than a short shell and waterproof, able to vent and wear all day. Fantastic jacket. I asked about Light Bicycle rims a while back and got many positive responses.
Alpinium is a big fan as I remember.
I stuck with alu rims in the end for various reasons so can’t comment directly.
