Re: More handlebar talk

I really like the Midge bars. Restlessnative sums it up very nicely.

I found this article very helpful when setting them up:

Re: Ceramic Bearings

I've always been led to believe that the key thing with bearings (other than the seals) is how round they are. The finer the tolerances, the better, and generally the more expensive. Ceramic bearings cost more to manufacture than steel ones. Chances are that at a given price point, you'll get rounde...

Thanks for all the replies folks. I think I'll probably file it under "what's the worst that can happen?", "buy some fatter tyres" and "start saving for a monstercross frame".

Routes for skinnier tyres. Or not.

Can any of you lovely folk advise on decent routes for a cross/gravel bike with ~40c tyres? I know there's the Wild About Argyll Trail, and folk have survived the Capital Trail and Trans Cambrian on cross bikes, but what else is there that wouldn't be utterly miserable on anything less than 2" ...

Re: Sleeping bag maths

I did a bit of thinking about this, and I'm not certain that the science holds, but how about...? We have a two duvets, 4.5 and 9 TOG rated. These can be poppered together to give a duvet with a rating of 13.5. If this is a valid way of working such things out, then if we can work out some way to co...

Making a Numo mat less cold

Warmer might be stretching things a bit... So, I have an Alpkit Numo mat, which whilst light and small when packed, probably isn't the most insulating mat ever. I'm thinking about making an all over 'pillowcase' for it, using a space blanket, in an (desperate) effort to make my nights a bit warmer. ...

Zipp service course tape is fantastic, but very spendy.
LifeLine Professional Bar Tape With Perforation is a decent budget alternative to Lizard Skins.
I also use PRO (Shimano) gel pads under the tape.

Re: Advice on chairing for 1×11

11 speed chain should work. The spacing between the inner plates is the same as regular 3/32" chain, it's the outer plates that are slimmed down to give the chain a narrower overall width. Downside to that chainring is it's not narrow/wide, so you'll probably want to give some thought to other ...
