I plotted a rough route on Google maps.
Around 1000km and 12000m.

Re: Portugal Divide
I like the look of this... same sort of height gain and distance as we did during the Spanish coast to coast thingy.
Anything that might be warm and sunny currently appeals.

Re: Training for the CTR
Gnar is not a word?? Both shocked and disappointed. I have met a few Euro xc and enduro racers that will sleep high. I'm not good on the science as I've never spent long enough high enough to take a thorough interest. That said I do tend to enter a race for the weekend I return from Alps trips, thin...

I have an EE, it's a lovely bit of kit but no better than the Cumulus stuff I've seen. The EE cost over twice as much in the end.... it was a custom but sadly they got it wrong. When I pointed it out the response was basically that I couldn't use a tape measure. Rude. Never in a million years will I...

Ha... what are you lot like, Trail Centres are not 'evil', just places to ride. Quantocks are pretty good, with full combe descents being near a mile long with tough climbs/pushes back up. The descents tend to be pretty fast and flowy if riding the combes, there is the steeper stuff off the western ...

Re: Southwest routes
I've been looking to join the West Country Way with the Exmoor and Quantocks route from Bikepacking.com. My thinking is to drive to Taunton, park and then train it down to Plymouth. I'd then ride north to the Tarr Steps and pick up the Exmoor and Quantocks loop going anti clockwise, going straight t...

I 'think' a lot in the shower, which I like.
It seems taking a bath could elevate this 'thinking' to philosophy.
Great news about the prickle.

Re: Skye and surrounding areas, March. Trail help needed.
Thanks for the replies, pretty much what I had expected. The whole trip is a bit of a random occurrence, place and time wise. That said it's a cracking part of the world so we'll be making the most of it. Torridon is a definite, I have no problem striking out from Elgol, it's that far from me that s...

Skye and surrounding areas, March. Trail help needed.
Myself and a mate have a week booked in Elgol on Skye in March. We are keen to ride as much as possible. We will be taking the big bikes, so suspension etc and are looking to take in as much riding as possible. So I'm here looking to pick the brains of the northern devision. In an ideal world we are...

Re: Cafe Racer GR are GO.
My first BB event and a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. I had a few 'issue's that saw me only 28 miles in and involved in a fairly major bike strip and rebuild in the dark at some place beginning with Ll and ending in lios. Once sorted a determined 34 miles, 3 pubs and 6 pints of hand glider saw me to...

I'm on it.
Stayed with 2 people, they were cool.
Had 4 people stay with me, couple of older American ladies, great stories. One very nice Dutch chap and a dickhead from Spain.
Overall, enjoying the experience,.

Re: Winter boots
I have just inherited a set of Gaerne winter boot things. They are nicely oversized so I wear a summer merino sock then a thicker sock. In the cold they have been great, before this i wore Shimano Am jobbies so these are a big improvement. The issue I have is with water getting in the top. I was jus...

Where are you going? I have been very happy with my Anker solar panel. I also have their power banks, headphones and speaker. Can't fault their gear for the cost.... I'm rarely a fanboy of any brand but as of yet Anker gear has proved to be excellent. That said the Zendure power packs look good, the...

Snowed on my ride yesterday, not enough to cover the top of my lofty local hill at 300ft... damn it.

Makes an important point regarding greater access requires greater responsibility. I wrote a bit about it when the greater access in England and Wales thing was doing the rounds. So much litter in popular riding spots, a sense of entitlement when digging and riding in inappropriate places and a lack...

Re: decathlon tents
I have a ultralight1 which is actually a pretty good tent.
My lad uses it if we have a night out and he loves it.
For the money it is a sensible weight, easy to pitch and has taken some rough weather in its stride.

It is a great trip.
One I may revisit one day but a March trip to slightly less sunny climes means it won't be next year.

I have a couple of Alpkit ones, love them but... you need two hands to open/close them. The Revelate ones are singlehanded, so I'll be getting a pair at some point but they are pricey and I have lots of other stuff to throw my hard-earned at first. If I had none I'd go straight for the Revelate ones.
