I've been keeping an eye on them too. Was hoping it was just dead batteries in his tracker or something.

Re: waterproof trousers ?

I have a pair of OMM Kameika pants https://www.theomm.com/product/kamleika-pant/ . The pretty light at 190g. You'll definitely sweat a bit in them but they're reasonably breathable and keep the rain off well. I'm not sure how durable they're going to be. I save them for occasions where speed/weight ...

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018

Unfortunately I didn't get an entry to the group start. I was in contact with Alan and his direction was to start at least 3 or four days before or a day or two after the group start. ITT starting on May 21st was more to do with timing around work/family etc. But after training for 7 months, driving...

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018

Yep as an ITTer might give myself a bit of breathing space and set off a little earlier. Probably be awake anyway with nerves  . I'd like to ease myself into it and not be in a mad panic the first day. Probably not a 4am start on the first day though! If you set off too early, we left at 5:30...

Great info thanks. Target for first day is set then . I'd be delighted with that kind of finishing time but realistically it'll take me a bit longer.

Re: HIghland Trail 550 - 2018

Google says the Londis in Fort Augustus closes at 7.30pm, is that accurate for May? Starting an ITT Mon May 21st, I may adjust my start time if that's the case.

Re: bum bags

there was a thread on bum bags recently, done a search, can't find it. Grrr looking at the use of a bum bag for delicates (phone, camera, satellite tracker etc) and valuables (wallet, passport, tickets, keys etc) if someone can find the original thread it would be appreciated. that aside, any views...

Re: Back issues

I had a hip/lower back injury a few years ago that still gives me a bit of pain every now and then. A physio helped to resolve it at the time. She gave me exercises to do and I've added a few Pilates exercises and stretches since. I spend a few mins every night doing these and this definitely helps ...

Re: SPOT Tracker Renewal Fees - Being Gouged?

Further to my earlier posts...have any SPOT users here seen or used their on-demand pricing? "1-3 DAYS $25 FLAT RATE PLUS ANY TAXES EACH ADDITIONAL DAY: $5 A DAY" I went the annual as it was the best pricing I've ever had with them, but I did consider the on-demand service. Greetz S. I re...

I think it might be the Curve GXR. There's another picture at the bottom of this page.

Re: Another Spot moan (sort of)

SPOT do an 'On Demand' option now as well. Got the link on here previously. There is an offer at the moment, $25 for 3 days and $5 per day after that. The normal price is $45 for 3 days and $10 per extra day.

Re: HT550 - the 2018 edition.

I didn't get a place in the group start but I'm going to do an ITT, probably starting Mon May 21st. Currently working out the finer details. I'll be using a GPS device but I saw mention on here about a paper map, ideally pretty packable? I'd like to take this along to have a good overview of where I...

+1 for the Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Day Pack. Very flexible piece of kit that can easily be packed away when not needed. Use it mostly to store extra food in the evenings.

Agree about the the decline of CRC. I recently bought a frame from them. The frame arrived (with hanger attached) floating around inside a large box with minimal protective packaging. Looks ok but not good enough.

Re: 'The rocky road to Dublin'.

The Wicklow Way walking route will take you a long way down the east coast. I've not done it and it's not strictly allowed for biking but it definitely has been done. Mostly rideable as far as I've read. Ireland is awkward with regards to offroad access. Most of the land it privately owned. Link to ...

Ian's zeroing in on tesco's. If you are right about the opening times then Chris and Neil have forsaken it. Is it the only game in town? It's a while since I have been to ullapool - is there no garage there or anything? Wondering about this too, what are the two front runners doing for food? Are th...
