Re: GBDURO goes from self-supported to self-sufficient

I'm in Ireland so very jealous at the thought of heading off for 2000km. Currently we can go 5km from home and that extends to 20km on June 8th. I figured there might be some stumbling blocks with regard to Covid19 restrictions alright. The food packing and hauling logistics are fascinating though. ...

GBDURO goes from self-supported to self-sufficient

This'll be very interesting to see how it all works out. https://www.theracingcollective.com/gbduro.html# #GBDURO20 just got a whole lot scrappier... we have taken the decision to safeguard the 2020 edition of GBDURO by making it COVID-19 compliant under the strictest possible set of rules, describe...

Could I have a copy of the gpx too please? Considering a summer ITT. Is there any plan for a group start?

Re: Ireland - any long-distance off-road options?

The Wicklow Way is a good route, about 130km and is mostly off-road with some quiet roads thrown in. I went from Clonegall to Marley Park then returned via road to the car (good shoulder, mostly downhil :-bd ). Here's a link to the track.

Some very good stuff here too. Not all bikepacking related. The last two for example are conversations with this years winner of the Indian Pacific Wheel Race and the guy who started the Everesting thingy.

Re: Headset parts query.

I recently replaced the headset on a 2013 El Mariachi. I hadn't replaced a headset before so I just ordered the same as the spec sheet for the bike. It's a Cane Creek 40.ZS44 | EC44 Short Cover Complete Headset Tapered - ZS44/28.6 | EC44/40, it came with all the replacement parts. Here's the link: h...

Here are a couple of podcasts that I found interesting if you're looking for more Tour Divide entertainment  It's interesting to note the positive attitude of these top competitors. You get the feeling it'd take a lot to stop them, not just in a bikepacking race but life in general. The guy be...

A few years ago it was the HT440 and then Alan added the top loop. I think there are some slight variations due locked gates, bridges out etc but mostly it's the same.

Liam Glen is just at the Coffin Road. Things are pretty close at the pointy end. It's going to be an interesting evening\night. I hope the weather is a bit better for everybody out there.

When I come to do it I'm going to have to know where all the bothy / B&B options are in advance. I wont get through 6 or 7 days without sleep, and I very much doubt I'll have learned how to sleep outdoors by then. I have the same as problem you. Can’t sleep in a bivi or tent..... but I did the ...

Re: Bar ends on loops? How wrong is it?

I've Ergon GP3s with On-One OG bars. Worked perfectly well on the HT550 this year. The GP3s offer a lot of different positions for long days. Admittedly, I rarely get points for style

The On-One OG bars are worth a look too. I have them on my bike and like them a lot. Fitted with Ergon GP3 grips, give loads of different hand positions. Not quite the backsweep of the Jones but not too far off looking at a comparison on the whatbars site. £25 too https://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/HBOOOG...

+1 for the OG bars with Ergon grips. Many positions and adjustments available to find your sweet spot. Used for HT550 this year and no hand issues.

Re: A bit of storage and route ideas required

The Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland is all sealed, most of it is on quiet roads and in fairly good condition. A great cycle with plenty of pubs, food and accommodation options along the route. It starts in Derry and ends in Kinsale. Could maybe fly into Dublin, stay in a B&B and let your gear there...

I'm open to correction but I'd have thought if you restart an ITT from the beginning again then the clock resets.
