Re: Sort of a photo thread - the basics and getting better t

Personally, I set my camera to spot metering, point it at what I want to have as both the focus and meter point (often, but not always the same thing) then I compose the shot after that. Example as shown - ... Meter. Focus. Recompose. Interesting, you differ to me here then. I tend to meter off the...

Re: Sort of a photo thread - the basics and getting better t

My photos aren't great, but have improved by changing from just using full auto (program mode?) all the time to using aperture priority most of the time - think about whether the photo would benefit from a deep depth of field - for example to keep both foreground and background in focus (= small ap...

Used to ride a Commencal Meta 5. I'm faster on my rigid on any gradient than I ever was on that and enjoy riding it more.

As the others said, practice and stop being soft.

Just thinking how nice that looks - simple and clutter-free. It looks like it 'wants' to be ridden.
I can promise you, right now it has a lot more mud on it! That was taken in the rain five mins after finishing building it back up.

This one truly is my inbred. There won't be another quite like this one anywhere, since a friend and I sprayed this frame together.

Some may recall this was beige not too long ago.

On the individial pic comments, agreed .. this is useful to read as I'm sure I'll see similar places again and will remember better ways to try a shot (on the tunnel pic, I think I did better last year in the same place? https://www.flickr.com/photos/67338272@N05/29772058155/in/album-72157670727522...

Re: Sort of a photo thread - the basics and getting better t

Composition and light are everything. As Chew says, most photos can be corrected later from a exposure perspective. I spend quite a lot of time doing that sort of adjustment. I only consider myself average, however I was pretty terrible when I started shooting. I've currently got over 34700 photos i...

Out of interest does anyone use a steripen? Just came across them recently and wondered how practical they are for regular use if you were on a trip I.e. battery life and weight. On the face of it seem good, waggle it in your bottle for 90sec and that's that. Though one review recommend doing it tw...

I'm thinking maybe the 200. Seriously doubt I'll be capable of doing the 300 or 400 unless I find a way to seriously up the miles beforehand.

Re: Racks, there I said it.

The Tubus Stainless racks are rather nice to look at, and they wear well as well.

It's worth noting their anodised aluminium ones don't wear that well, and start looking tatty pretty quickly. All impressively well made, though.

Looked at the most local teams to me. Problem I have at the moment is I can't get back from work early enough to make the training evenings. Don't leave the office till gone six a lot at the moment, and I'm lucky to get home by 7:30 if the trains are on-time. For now the idea of on the back-burner, ...

Major respect for signing up Greg. I thought about doing it when I was based in Plymouth and joining the Plymouth branch of DSRT. Unfortunately they requite that every team member has a car, and I fell down t that point. There's no teams local for me now, however should I get the chance in the futur...

I'm going to throw Fuji into the mix now. You'll be able to get yourself a fully-featured camera that's pretty compact, you can run just about any glass on it, and you've got a traditional viewfinder (hell, you can even go for a digital rangefinder if that's your thing). I shoot on the now-deprecate...

Re: Backing up photos using a Raspberry Pi

Yeah, I looked into those 'smart hard drive' things, but as you can see from the B&H link, they are eye-wateringly expensive. I think the cheapest I have found was over £300. I think Joe's Pi cost me £25 or something. I will look into getting one of those doofers to interface the USB stick with...

There is something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/RAVPower-Wireless-Portable-Companion-Streamer/dp/B00TI3WQJS No personal experience of that device. There are others that have internal hard drives too, but I'm failing on the correct search terms. B&H have some expensive examples (US site):...

In 2010 I went to uni and started getting really into mountain bikes there. I've been into backpacking forever, and a friend and I decided to do JogLe after uni, so I bought some bike packing bags for it and got on with it. I've loved it ever since, but it was a natural progression for me. I don't g...

All of these are from various point in this years Dartmoor ride. Not many action shots as it's quite literally pitch-black for the vast majority of the ride. http://cloud.danielgroves.net/OeSmq1qkdy/20170708-DSCF4341.jpg http://cloud.danielgroves.net/RNmUAlVv3Y/20170708-DSCF4347.jpg http://cloud.dan...
