Traws Eryri
Apologies if this has been posted before, but a search didn't yield. Route description sounds good, and overall I think having a well thought out 'official' route is a good thing, as ones like the KAW have proven. I'm sure it'll take in plenty of previous BB200/300 rides, and also notes that it coul...

Re: Summer baggies
Got some light hiking ones I use from Decathlon. Little bit of stretch, very fast drying and breathable. Got them because I got bored of heavy and too baggy mtb specific ones. Mine are a little bit on the short side but still fine, and just seen they do long versions: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/m...

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Replaced chain and cassette on the Camino. Changed chainset to my old SLX due to lack of availability of N/W rings for the 105 asymmetric bolt pattern. New 38t chainring, new pedals, and new 812 GRX mech which was in my cycle to work parts bundle. New gear cable and outer will follow when I swap bar...

Re: Forks wanted
Those Kona forks linked by PaulE look like they'd do the job and are a decent price. In a similar steel and straight steerer vein, Surly Straggler or Disc Trucker QR forks are the right a/c and have reasonable tyre clearance: https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/frames-forks-c6/rigid-forks-c51/surly-strag...

Re: Gravel porn
Nice frame on that Reilly, but otherwise it's a road bike with very chunky tyres. I do prefer it when off road capability of the tyres are more commensurate with geometry, but i've never been much interested in the road/allroad end of the gravel spectrum...

Re: Todays ride
Nipped out yesterday for what turned out to be a cracking local loop. Weather was sunny but windy, Celandines lined the towpath and the hedges were in full blossom. I went down 2 unexplored footpaths to make a really nice loop I'd not done before, but that included some really nice bits. For those w...

Re: Who actually uses a guide book…?
My favourite cycling guidebook describes itself as an "anti-guidebook". It doesn't actually contain any actual routes, rather it lays out a method for landscape exploration by bike and urges readers to do it for themselves. It's called "English Country Lanes" and written by Gare...

Re: Who actually uses a guide book…?
Generally use them for inspiration for routes and many are an enjoyable read in themselves, like Lost Lanes. I rarely, if ever, follow a preset route, but i've used mtb guides a couple of times to do specific loops when time has been short and I wanted to do a nice route somewhere I didn't know at t...

Behind every good joke is a kernel of truth though...I've just been reading how native Americans used to use the fluff from poplars and willows ('cottonwoods') for spinning, making bandages, and to line the cots of infants...so some insulating purpose

I've used gorilla clear repair tape with success, cut to desired size or shape. Thick and long lasting too.

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Been doing an ongoing shed tidy-up. Chucking pointless crap away, and doing the mindful task of sorting through the disparate collections of bolts, washers, valve caps, ferrules, and general gubbins that i've not put away in the right place for an age. All of it going into a drawer storage unit to b...

Re: What’s 2023’s Arkose?
I think value wise it's the Sonder Camino now. Plenty of build options from budget to bling, and a cracking ride too.
Did big mileage on my old Arkose, fond memories. Always hankered after one of the paint splatter frames, I think the green and splatter SS frame maybe? Great paint job

Re: What mudguard for my Scandal...?
Mudhugger's should work front and rear to keep the worst off. Front comes with a longer add on bit, and i found it works pretty well, will do more so with a crud catcher on the downtube to fill the remaining gap left. Should be fine with tight clearance, they are thin and once secured don't move. ED...

The one I've been waiting for: did a C2W parts and accessories splash out, so a disappointingly small box arrived this morning (considering the combined value!). It sets me up with some lovely stuff to last a long time, plus some very nice replacement consumables. https://i.ibb.co/z5gTNnR/PXL-202303...

I dabbled with flats and they're not for me generally, but can see the appeal for some circumstances and keep some in stock if those needs arise. I use DMR V6s on the town bike, and they've been great for the past 6 years (no servicing, but doesn't get big mileage). If you're dabbling then no need t...

Great replies so far! :-bd I mean, combining alpine hiking and biking is pretty much the dream! Riding then walking
Partly inspired by the 'proper' mountain thread, got me thinking about various times i've thought about/wanted to go biking somewhere to then go for a walk. Usually a hill or mountain that is nicer to walk up, but really it can be anything at all - going for a walk on a nature reserve where bikes ar...
