Re: How long will tyres keep if unfitted?
Can I leave them rolled up or are they best stored flat?

How long will tyres keep if unfitted?
Hi there. As I'm seeing some of my favourite 27.5 tyre stocks diminish, I'm thinking of buying a few pairs of plus sizes but don't want to leave them in the shed for 12 months or more to then find their all out of shape and buggered when I come to fit them. A friend bought some of the now sadly defu...

Re: Another busy summer of BBQ, campfires and litter?
Aside from the twattery, it’s the sheer numbers of people out that is the issue. And I’ll probably be one of them, so I’m part of the problem. My wife and I rode a Jennride route over to Wasdale last year. The valley was truly horrendous with camper vans everywhere, fires, pissed up idiots etc. Howe...

Re: Bladder issues
It doesn’t happen on shorter trips but anything over a couple of weeks and I’ve got to deal with it. I’m not that bothered about pissing in the bike shorts as I can rinse them through, but it’s a pain in normal trousers. Shoving bog roll down the pants helps. Thanks for the water bladder tips, I’m l...

Bladder issues
Well two types. We’re off to hopefully ride some of the Baja route in December and my ortlieb 5 litre bladder I used to shove in a pannier is too unwieldy to tie to a seat pack or get in the frame bag. Any suggestions for a bladder I could use or wear as a backpack that’s not a backpack if that make...

Re: Rigid forks for a Salsa Timberjack
Really they are replacing the sus forks for reliability. I’ve made some triple cage adapters to fit the sus forks which we use regularly (used to use regularly) but on extended trips I do prefer to use a rigid. Saying that we did cycle round Bolivia in 2007 with front suspension and it was fine.

Cheers. Trek one looks good but its a bit pricey. I see the Salsa firestarter is discontinued, would that be a viable option?

Rigid forks for a Salsa Timberjack
Just a quick recommendation request.
The boss would like to run a set of rigids on her timberjack when/if we get to ride in Baja later this year. The good people at Ghyllside cycles said Surly karate monkey forks will be ok, but does anyone have any other suggestions?
Ta very mooch.

27.5 plus? Where are you?
I’m preparing for when we are eventually allowed to play out and both myself and my wife’s bike require new tyres. After a cursory root about I’m suprised by the lack of availability of the 27.5, 2.8 to 3.0 size. For me it’s a perfect combination of cushioning and control, are they being phased out?...

Tubus did do a typically robust front rack compatible with a sus fork. I used it to tour in S America years ago, the bags sit a bit high but it works. I think it may be discontinued.

I watched this fella’s YouTube video. It’s about an hour. After stripping a nipple resulting in the aforementioned Pringle shaped rim I decided to have a go at rebuilding the thing myself and it was a fantastic resource.

Very sad indeed. We stayed there for two days on the final leg of our Alaska-Ushuaia trip. It was a warm safe haven from the screaming wind and will be sadly missed by the touring fraternity.

Well if you have, and stayed in the back room of the Bakery your lucky as nobody else will for a while. This place really has the title of "legendary" when its often overused. Tragic really. https://ushuaia24.com.ar/contenido/10038/se-incendio-la-historica-panaderia-la-union-de-tolhuin-y-l...

Re: WTD: Rigid forks for Surly Karate Monkey
Ive had a request for some fork adapters I've made. Its a composite material used in the die making industry, they are about 20mm thick and have captive nuts behind the bolts (you can see on the picture) . Retained on the forks with zip ties and window tape, much better than the 3D printed versions....

https://bikepacking.com/news/elegy-troll-pugsley-lht/ Mines done over 35,000km and its still being used regularly, in fact i did the weekly shop on it tonight and lugged it all home in a trailer. What a beast and a bulletproof multfunctional tourer. Sad to see its production end but I suppose 26&quo...

Bloody brilliant bike. Takes 3” with the rigid fork but I’m not sure if you can get a sus fork to take this size tyre.

Re: WTD: Rigid forks for Surly Karate Monkey
I’ve made some triple mount adapters to fit suspension forks. Cable tie and tape retained but they work really well, survived two Jenrides in the lakes so that’s a good test. I could knock you up a set . PM if interested. Im only posting this as I’m currently riding a karate monkey with front suspen...

Re: Has anyone ever totally given up...
I’ve fu**ed them off. The Troll now has some new 27.5 rims, nobby nics, cheap second hand eBay wheels which, if you add up the time I’ve spent getting them running, probably cost about £700
Plus they’re on superstar fuel hubs, which feel like they’ll last two weeks.

Re: Has anyone ever totally given up...
I might just sell the wheels on tbh and try something else. Or try new tyres. Myself and my wife did a fairly long tour on trolls a couple of years ago. We got some velocity 26 rims built up and when I came to fit the Schwalbe marathon plus extremes (tubed) it nearly saw me off. However, with the kn...
