PHD Ultra Down Vest (reduced)

Hi, I've decided to let this go, as I just don't use it. I've only worn it a couple of times...it could pass for new. Size is small, but it's more like a slim medium - when I originally ordered it PHD told me a medium would be a perfect fit...the med was massive, so I had to swap for the small. I'm ...

Ti Loop bar on STW.

Thought I'd mention it...thought it would have gone by now! £175.

Edited: reading it before made it sound like there was more than one.
Oh, I guess the carbon will be more than £175? Anyway, if I was strapping things to it, I'd rather have Ti...if I wasn't skint they'd be mine (****!).

Re: Lakeland 200 - real world experience PLEASE

I think it's been mentioned before, but I think the thing to do is carry most of your gear on your back, rather than the bike, to make the hike-a-bike bearable. Some might disagree with that, but the hike-a-bike round here can be bad enough when not bikepacking, nevermind with a loaded bike. I know ...

WTD: Rigid fork 26" with disc mount (440+ a2c) (1 1/8")

As above really. It's to go on an Inbred. I see On Ones own fork is 440 axle to crown, so I guess I don't want anything shorter than that. I'm not looking to spend a great lot either, otherwise I might as well buy new from On One.

Cheers.

Scotroutes, you'd be able to use 'Pour and Store' bags - available from most supermarkets...I use them for couscous and porridge.

Here's some interesting information about down: Outsideonline.com (US Mag) For those that can't be bothered clicking, it basically says that down feathers are basically proteins that break down over time...understandable, but it then goes on to say that the higher the loft, the quicker it breaks dow...

I'm going to see AH at Rheged, Penrith this weekend...I think what he's done travelling wise is great. I'm not too impressed with him getting 'Adventurer of the Year' due to this micro-adventures thing he's done though...I asked some of my mates' if they fancied coming to see him and none of them kn...

I'm a fan of the Gore Alp-X bibs (have 3 pairs on rotation). They are harder wearing than those designed for roadies. I find the pad keeps it's 'paddiness', unlike a lot of cheaper bibs I've tried too.

Are you prepared to pay more for one (double)? If so, those from Borah Gear are held in high regard on here...do a search within the forum for ideas on the material and size options.

Hi, I'm pleased you still enjoyed your trip despite the bad night's sleep...I knew what your were going to write after you'd mentioned you were only using the outer of your tent! :)
Nice pictures too, although you could do with reducing their size so they aren't cropped.

Re: Carbon or Titanium Handlebars

I've always found this a funny subject when it comes to mountain bikes...surely the tyres and/or any suspension will give more comfort? Folk talk about flex in titanium, fair enough on the rear end of a hardtail, for handlebars though? I've always stuck with mid-weight stem and carbon bars for stiff...

Would the monkii clips fit on a suspension fork do you reckon?

They only just fit on Fox 32's.

Re: Recommend Some MTB Shoes

I've recently bought some Shimano M088's. I'm very happy with them so far...they're much more secure on my feet than the boots I'd been wearing, the soles have plenty of grip and aren't too stiff either. Obviously I can't comment on their durability yet. They can be bought for less than £60 from Wig...

Looks like a great trip! I think I'm going to have to give it a go (and hope you're right about BackCountryBiking having made a deal with the weather gods). One question though, how stable are those packrafts? I've had a go at a few things on the water this past year. Kayaking was great and felt in ...

Ha ha! Sorry, but it is funny. Cows are always curious, you're lucky they never ate your tarp. I learnt about midges the hard way too and have decided carrying a mosi headnet and keeping all skin covered up is the only way. Of course, you could try insect repellants...the best stuff has deet in it, ...

Thanks, I thought it would get damp whatever I decided on. I think I'll manage without one then.

P.S. If I've time, I'll nip to the solicitors and get you put in my will. Don't think there will be much chance of me dying at this time of year though. :)

The Importance of a Bivi Bag in Dry Weather?

Hi, I was going to rush out and buy a bivi bag for a short trip tonight (to save carrying my tent). The weather is supposed to stay fine though, so I wondered if I'd be fine without one? It's a down bag I've got and had thought of just putting a polythene sheet on the ground to keep things clean (I'...

Restlessnative, put your groundsheet through the washing machine a couple of times on a cold wash. That should soften it up somewhat.

I'm not speaking from experience but had had seen it mentioned on someones site selling things made out of it.

I think some of the Exped mats come in a drybag that's used in similar way, the bag has a 'schnozzel' on it.

Re: GPS mount

S8tannorm - could you not make a low profile version of what you have already, maybe using a piece of plate instead of the tube? Then cutting some small notches in it to grip the cable ties and stop it coming off.
