Re: Lakeland 200

A few pics from my LL200 - unfortunately I forgot the cable to charge my phone so didn't get as many as I wanted! Top of walna scar road - dropper, flat pedals and a backpack for this trip, which I didn't regret one bit! https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4156/34443303865_4b749ec9c7.jpg Untitled by Soph ...

Re: Lakeland 200

Hi Pete, great to meet you too. I was really suffering in Stavely when I met you (post high street and garburn) but perked up for the last 55km leg back to Coniston thankfully - I think seeing that you'd got round successfully was a bit of a boost! I started at 5pm on the Saturday evening - family s...

Re: SPD shoes for extended hike a bike? Lakeland 200 content

I use mavic alpines - decent enough on the bike and for HAB. And very cheap online in some places!

For the LL200 I used flats and a pair of Adidas terrex cross trails and they were brilliant for HAB - super grippy - and decent for pedalling too. That's what I'll be wearing for the HT550 I think.

Re: Cairngorms loop in April group.

Well done everyone who completed. What were the river levels like?

I bailed out on the CL and did the lakeland 200 instead. Tough but excellent ride - the wind was not great in the lakes either, but it was (very) dry!

Re: Cairngorms loop in April group.

ha - I just asked the same question on another thread. It looks like the low level snow has gone. forecast improving but still cold and windy. As I've already done the CL, I think I may go for the lakeland 200 instead. Need some hike-a-bike training for the HT550, it's closer, and the forecast is be...

Re: Backup route

thanks for that Bob - starting in Stavely, I think I'd get to borrowdale very late on the first day. Any update on the local weather Scotroutes, seems that the low level snow has gone already? ? The more I think about it, the more I think I may go to the lakes instead - harder route, closer, slightl...

Re: Backup route

The lakeland 200 may be a go-er instead of the CL, but I'm not 100% sure about the lakes on a bank holiday.

Re: Backup route

yep - I'm keeping a close eye on the weather too for the group start on saturday. Definitely planning to take a fair amount of kit (more than I was hoping) but still hopeful of an attempt - the shoulder of bynack more is the decision point. If it looks really grim I'll be looking for an alternative,...

I may be interested in a frame bag for a M solaris - is it a full bag or partial?

cheers,

Re: The Perfect Bike Packing Bike

I like both of mine. Also have plus tyres and rigid fork for the solaris, but am soft and like suspension. They overlap a lot, but the solaris is more versatile and can be built for XC, bikepacking and 'trail' riding (it's currently wearing a longer fork, plus tyres, and a 50mm stem), whereas the sp...

Re: A very damp transcambrian ITT

From about 7.30-11.30am it was terrible! Pouring with rain - on top of already saturated ground it made the grass track bits pretty horrendous. I think I really underestimated the opening 50Km, which were the hardest by a fair margin in those conditions as it is largely farmed land. I got very cold ...

A very damp transcambrian ITT

I'm signed up for the HT550 this year, and I realised I'd not actually been bikepacking since I did the cairngorm loop last september. So I thought I'd do the TCW last friday in an attempt to build some character. It was very wet , and the first 55 km to rhayader were miserable, especially with a ve...

Surely a road event for that sort of distance though?

yep - seems to be a road event with a 100mile off road section on the south downs way.

haha, yes, should have guessed really! I guess it will be Wildcat or Alpkit depending on the prices. Would love a wildcat (got a lion, tiger and ocelot already).

It's a long shot, but does anyone have a framebag for a Medium spearfish (old model) that they've got going spare?!

Re: Spot gen 2 advice

thanks Bob and Ian. Having to sign up for a 12 month contract is a bit of a pain though - It thought it may be more of a month by month thing but as far as I can tell, it's a contract! I'm just not going to do enough events to make that look a good deal... and my wife doesn't care where I am  :...

Spot gen 2 advice

I was going to rent a gen 3 spot for the CL and HT550 this year, but I could buy an apparently unused, but technically 2nd hand, gen 2 for less money. I'd still have to get a service plan but I think that is possible according to the very cryptic email from Spot - does anyone have any advice about s...

I didn't realise that Culra was shut for asbestos. That's me poisoned a few times then

There are some great trails around there. Are the remains of an old ww2 air crash still at the bealach dubh between alder cottage and culra, or am I getting that mixed up?

Re: Best SPD bikepacking shoes

I'm using mavic crossrides - two continental sizes up from my normal shoe size - and am liking them. Not too stiff for hike a bike or too flexible for pedalling, laces not velcro/ratchets, reasonably good sole, light, drain water quickly too. And I got them for £20 from Bike in Bristol!
