Grayl filter

I spotted this on the Singletrack forum (sorry if I've missed it elsewhere on here!) - looks pretty good, and is available from Cotswold. http://www.thegrayl.com/how-it-works I've got the Sawyer Mini Filter which is great - I think that it only removes pathogens (the bugs) whereas this Grayl one als...

(almost!) free touring

Don't know if I'm being slow on the uptake and people have already read Tom Allen's site / blog, but this is great and inspirational stuff!

Re: Tell me about - Bivis and tents

Really like my Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 https://www.bigagnes.com/Products/Detail/Tent/SeedhouseSL1 Loads of room for a chunky 5'7" bod. Has performed in some memorable deluges (WRT2012...)! That said, I'm looking into the tarp / tarptent options to see if the flexibility of where they can be pit...

Re: Gorilla Cage

I guess it'll partly come down to the geometry of your frame / size of the main triangle. I've run the monkii cage in the frame on both a 29er (Salsa Fargo) and 26er (Soma Groove) with no problems of pedalling interaction. I'm hoping that the Gorilla will also be ok, assuming I don't overfill it (ta...

Re: Best GPX file reader/app for iphone?

ViewRanger is very good, IMO. Map tiles seem very good value, and available for outside the UK too, came in handy in Spain earlier this year on the Camino de Santiago. The web platform works well, and the web community is useful.

Re: Tour Divide 2014

Yes, that's a beautiful part of the world. Stayed at the Flathead Lake Biological Research station in the early 90s and took the chance to go and wander round Glacier National Park. Really hope to go back there in 2016 if I get to do the TD.

Was just wondering exactly the same and thought I'd check on here! Hope not. Maybe slight detour for a mechanical or something? Can't see a settlement along there. Seems to be 3 of them in that group.

Re: WRT Weigh-in results.

You can add 12.5 lbs to mine for the backpack which I had to come back and get re-weighed for! I was 50.5 lbs but guess it didn't get spotted in the mix. So you're 3rd not 4th! :-bd Still pretty chuffed with that as the Groove isn't the lightest of frames, and I must've lost getting on for 20...

Re: Keeping sleeping bag dry

The podsac ones are good for sleeping bags / kit that can get a bit damp overnight as it's got eVent at one end, the idea being that moisture 'breathes' out during the day even when packed away. Seems to be effective for me!

Is that Juice year model the one with v-brake bosses as well as disc tabs? No problem if it is, just confirming.

Very interested if Stu hasn't already snapped it up!

The dhb Minima is excellent, IMO - usually makes its way into my pack for all but the most torrential of weather, in which case my Endura eVent full weight jacket comes out.

jameso, that looks like a really interesting trip! Very tempted to try something of that distance in 2015 as a dry run (and it looks very dry...) for the Tour Divide 2016: would love to know how you get on.

Re: PowerMonkey - Worthwhile or Not?

The B&M deal seems to have timed out when I had a scan around. Might be wrong though! I've not used the solar power for the PowerMonkeys, Lee, but the PMs themselves came in really handy on the Camino. There were usually power points in the albergues if you looked around to recharge them and any...

Likewise, bought a couple as the clearance on my triangle with a tanglebag is awkward to use a bottle, should do the job nicely - thanks!
