Sleeping bags
Bought a Rab Neutrino last year, weighs 600g, rated 5degrees down to zero (think), packs small... cost £201 ! I used it on the moors last week, it was useless - temp probably 1 or 2 above 0 (Garmin said -0.8 but I don't believe it, it seems to to record colder than actual) When I put my head inside ...

Re: Kanga Blues
I had been riding without a Kanga (desperate to fix the handlebar bag on, and off, and it still moved to one side)... then a few weeks back I bought one, and not knowing what the carbon poles were for did test rides without them... Then discovered what they were for, fitted them, and they have been ...

Wednesday night 26th - finally made it - local, over Darwen Moor, more a test of equipment than anything else... Klymit Inertia half length airmat - let me down because it kept going down... I'll be phoning Ultralight Outdoor Gear tomorrow... And I had bought a lightweight sleeping bag: Rab Neutrino...

Re: GPS Fears, Spares and Maps...
I have recently installed Memory Map on an iPhone4s... (GB Landranger 1:50k NOT High Definition = 2.2gb, so all of GB will fit on the phone). If you use tracking I think it would use a lot of battery... but if your GPS fails do you really need tracking ? In the maps in MemMap there is a circle with ...

What about chain lube when you're out for 560 miles ? How many would you carry ? eg Finish Line Wet 2oz (60ml) .. does weigh about 2oz Or the bigger one 4oz - I'm assuming less weight of the container per oz in a bigger one... (sorry about this, put it down to the weather and I only got to bed at 4a...

Handlebar bags
Up to now I've been using Pawel's handlebar bag (bikepack.eu) - large has a capacity of "6-10Litres, weight 280g" it's a bit narrow and you have to work with force to get tent and sleeping bag etc. in. Then I've been looking at Alpkit's Dry Bags eg Airlok extra - 35 litres 228g - would cos...

Hi Gairy My tuppence worth: It's no use using an online calculator to determine Max HR. There is a method I used in the past... I can't remember the precise details but it is basically (to determine Max HR for on a bike): Pick a good hill to ride up Warm up before attempting it Then give it what for...

Re: Anyone else not carry a phone?
A few years back I was out running, got back to my car, and set off... After going round a bend I was horrified to see a motorcyclist who had slid (we found later a piece of metal on the bend) on a bend and came off the bike sliding into the ditch, and colliding with a telegraph pole... I stopped th...

Re: Alpkit Kanga
Greenmug - did a ride today with the plastic rods in, yes it is definitely an advantage, no movement at all over bumpy ground.. very pleased now with the Kanga, what a difference to my rides up to now:- handlebar bar bag needing a lot of tapes etc. to secure it, and it still slipped eventually, and ...

Thanks for all that Greenmug... In the absence of further information I took out the 2 plastic rods (and following the pictures via 'singletrack' where people complained that that the Kanga stuck up quite high and prevented lights on the handlebars, it does not stick up, and leaves plenty space for ...

They said that they will eventually put some instructions on their website because they have had a lot of queries... I'm not surprised. If anybody h...

Re: New waterproof jacket
I need a new jacket, my North Face Flight Series, which cost an arm and a leg a few years ago (£180 after discount) is letting the weather in. I've NikWaxed it quite a few times... it starts off with healthy looking beads of water so you think it's working, but after a couple of hours you realise it...

Re: Cairngorms Loop Best Cairngorms Three Dayer?
And I can now see why the confusion !
Ray's map is not detailed enough to show where the tracks are - it looks like it's just north of Bheinn-a-Ghlo but its is I think just the normal way !

Aha ! Thanks for clarifying where you mean
That's the Alt Garbh Bhuide - the normal route from Glen Tilt to Braemar or vice versa. (in certain parts do not fall off !)
The one on Ray's map is just north of Bhein a Ghlo... I don't think there is a way

Hiya PorkyPie " The track north of Bheinn a Ghlo - fascinated by that ? Is it all push/carry ?" No! it's a fantastic ribbon of singletrack that traverses a steep sided valley - lovely stuff (if you can out run the clegs) ;) Are you sure ? It looks from Ray's rough map that it may be just t...

Hi Ray
I'm interested in your map, but it's difficult to read any detail.
If you have a gpx would appreciate it, or a more detailed map.
The track north of Bheinn a Ghlo - fascinated by that ? Is it all push/carry ?

Definitely going on my list, probably for next spring...
Does anyone have a gpx of the whole route please ?
