Nice one. I shall let you know how it survives 3 over excited smallish people.

Just need to knock up a triangular tarp now

Re: Wet Gear Query

Have a look a brynje. Looks terrible but nothing breathes or wicks like it. You can layer a thin synthetic over the top as well Just bought one after after reading Andy Kirkpatrick evangelising about them. It’s quite a look  but I think it will work well. I’ve had good results with Paramo, j...

Re: Phone case

I’ve had a few of the lifeproof cases but on all of the the screen cover has come away from the case eventually.

Currently using a punk case which seems much more durable.

Polartec Alpha jacket SOLD

I picked up a Sugoi hybrid jacket cheap to try the new fangled Polartec Alpha stuff. It’s only in the body (which is a kind of silvery-blue colour) and the arms are a kind of stretchy grey fleece. Made a great winter riding jersey, with just a thin base layer it does breath really well. Anyway, it’s...

Re: Jones loops vs drop bars

I built up a vagabond for fun during the lockdown. Took me a while to get the bars right - was originally using salsa cowchippers. Either the drops felt right but the hoods were at the wrong angle and too high or vice versa. Swapping to ritchey venturemax was amazing - super short drop, so both the ...

Microshift 10spd mtn thumbshifters SOLD

I love these, but I really don’t need to hoard a spare pair

Microshift SL-M10
Work with 10spd mtn clutch derailleur. Friction mode when things break, just like the good old days.

Cost me £95ish from sjs and have seen little use.

£50 posted.

Re: Decanting Smidge into smaller bottle

I picked up a smaller spray of smidge - it’s a funny shaped thing, like a thick credit card shape. Nice and easy to pack though. https://www.climbers-shop.com/essentials/insect-protection/pocket-smidge-insect-repellent__10940275?currency=GBP&chosenAttribute=6000555&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsqmEBhDiARI...

Happened on my road bike. Had pedals, cranks, bottom bracket, seatpost all off regressed and re fitted but no joy. Eventually tracked it down to the front qr not being tight enough

Re: Tips and tricks for a cold night

In addition to hats, I find that some sort of scarf or other thin, loose material draped over my face and neck helps. It warms the air around the face and that I breathe in, whereas otherwise that cold air often bothers me and keeps me awake. Less of an issue in a tent than in a bivvy bag. A simila...

Re: DT Swiss hub - help please

Took it apart again and noticed the metal spacer behind the ring nut wasn’t seated and was pinned between it and the bearing.
Flattened it back out with the hammer ( )put it all back together and normal service is resumed :-bd

DT Swiss hub - help please

Just replaced the rear wheel bearings (not freehub) in an older dt 350 hub. Getting the ratchet ring loose was something else, but all seeming went well and hub is back together in the order it came apart. Everything feels appropriately smooth spinning axle in your hand, but tightening the qr and th...

Re: Bar bag support

Cunning... no rack base needed, just the lower supported by the struts with the bag hanging from the bars? I like that. Sadly like all good ideas nicked from other greater minds - google Fabio’s chest peck deck (edit don’t do that  throws up some alarming exercise videos). There is a very en...

Bar bag support

I’ve had one of the small acepac bags from stu on the gravel commuter for a while now and love how convenient it is. This had me lusting after the swift industries saddle bags to mount on the bars for bike packing duties on less technical routes. The eye watering prices meant it would be a pretty ex...

I just bought some bb7s to go on my wife’s bike and will be taking off some basic shimano hydraulics. Depends how much of a rush your in as I only paid last night and don’t want to leave her without any brakes as it’s her only bike. Could find at least one spare rotor too. Say £35 posted? Let me kno...
