Re: Would this work around standard brake calipers?

The Ortleib bag bracket attached with plastic coated wire that wraps aroun the bars a few times and is then cinched in. It may work on funny shaped bars. I could send you one to try out if you like. Trad Ortlieb bar bags are great. Click on and off in a second and are solid as anything. You get a wh...

Draping the jacket over the bag rather than wearing it can be warmer if you can get it to stay put..

Krampus. They are the same dimensions as the steel Firestarter forks supplied with the Fargo. They are also good. I have them on my Krampus (long story!) https://www.bikemonger.co.uk/surly-krampus-fork-qr-3708-p.asp They also do a steel boost bolt through version now. https://www.bikemonger.co.uk/su...

Re: What you done t' your bike today

I have three sets of forks I use on the Fargo. These carbon ones, some ‘trashy (and spine/wrist busting) Surly steel’ ones, and some X-Fusion Slide RL suspension forks. The carbon ones aren’t Salsa despite the decals :o but came from Italian shop Ridewill. They are ok. They are light and stiff and f...

Man they are awful.
They were the first tyres I had on my Krampus and they made me think I had made a terrible mistake.

I know it will be a bit of a pain. I am used to just using bottles but trying to maximise enough space on a full suss and seems the most logical approach for me to save having loads smaller bags attached. That why I do it (although I'm using a normal frame) A bladder squashes to fill the space so n...

I'm a little disappointed here - the last time we had a similar thread, I recall it was full of people saying 'I tried it and didn't like it" and 'ooh, I'm not sure it's a good idea'. This time, someone asks for a recommendation and the thread's just full of people offering recommendations and...

Only you will know whether you trust it or not but FWIW.... The one that got fixed has ridden me to work every day for the last 4 years. It’s parked uncovered at work. It has also been through many Dartmoor fords. 2 oil changes, no problems. My original was bought in 1999, has ridden across 3 contin...

Re: Rohloff Speedhub. Not fit for purpose?

Sounds bad. Sorry to hear that. Is it un- repairable? I ask this because one of mine originally belonged to my father in law that had it on a bike he kept on a yacht - tied to the railing unused for 2 years. When I got it the ex box was a a ball of corrosion, the shifter was totally stuck and extern...

Huel do a hot and savoury version now with three flavours. I've not tried it but it works out at £2.35 per meal and is nutritionally complete. https://uk.huel.com/products/huel-hot-savoury The only downside is that you have to spend £50. I've heard it's better than the shakes and a really simple 'j...

You won’t get a Rohloff because you don’t have the mentality for it :o A Rohloff bike is a keeper, see. Not one of your here today gone tomorrow projects. Their customer service/warranty department probably wouldn’t meet your high standards either. They don’t get much practice with awkward customers...

I have a Sawyer Micro and MSR Trailshot and alternate between which I like best. The Sawyer fill a bottle quicker and easier most times. No pumping, which is good with tired hands. It can be a PITA if there is only shallow water to fill the bag up, this is where the Trailshot comes in very handy, it...

Im pretty sure someone on here used to make their own dehydrated food. They would make a veggie chilli and cook it. Then they would place it in a large tray and put it on the scales and record its weight. It then went into the oven at about 60c for around 8hrs to dehydrate it. Once cooled it was we...
